Year of Me 2015

I am a 38 year old mom, 2 kids, happily married for 15 years. I have always been a "heavy" girl, meaning even when I was in excellent shape and playing college basketball, I weighed 180 lbs. at 5'7". I am solid.

Fast forward 20 years and I weighed 306 at the doctor's just a week ago. This was the first physical I'd had in 5+ years.

I'm tired of putting everyone and everything first before my own health, wants, and needs.
This is the Year of Me.

Since late December, I've been eating a low carb, high fat and protein diet. It works for me. I'm following the Primal way of eating, about 80/20. No gluten -- I don't think I'm celiac, I just think it's a slippery slope for me and I feel better when I do not eat things like bread, white flour, crackers, etc.

My doctor prescribed Adipex as well, and I started taking a half dose this morning.

Goals:
Lose 20-25 lbs. by April (we are going on vacation)
Lose 40-50 lbs. by July (I am going on a mission trip)
Lose 60 lbs. by October (walk Detroit half marathon)
Lose 65 lbs. by November (Ann Arbor Turkey Trot)
Lose 80+ lbs. by summer 2016 (PALM bike ride - Pedal Across Lower Michigan)

I would be completely happy and healthy with myself physically at 220-210 lbs.
My blood work was completed and everything looked good except a small iron deficiency (which I've dealt with my whole life as an adult).

Let's do this.

Sounds like you are on the right path - setting "mini" goals to keep it achievable! Feel free to add me as a friend. I am originally from lower Michigan (Jackson), but I now live in the sunny south (South Carolina).

Sometimes the hardest part of this whole journey is putting ourselves "first" - but everyone in our lives benefit from it because the more healthy we become, the more energy we have to be able to do more for others. I have found that the days I work out, I am in a more positive and happy mood and ready to take on the world.

Thanks for sharing your goals! I started reading your post because this NEEDS to be a Year Of Me as well! I am thinking about getting a tattoo of YOM so it will be a constant reminder that every year is for me. Then the rest falls into place :)

Love the tattoo idea -- if only I had a nice in-shape spot to put one. ;)
