Question: Insanity Alternatives

I have done insanity in the past. Unfortunately after sustaining a couple of injuries to my back and knees, from non-fitness related accidents, I find myself in a lot of joint pain after just a week of insanity. I was hoping someone might know of an alternative workout that has a high intensity but lower impact on the knees and back.

If you are looking at Beachbody programs, PIYO is one that is easy on the joints. Not nearly as intense as Insanity though.

This happened to me too, I absolutely loved insanity but unfortunately became obsessed and did too much exercise AS WELL as the programme so it got a bit silly. Anyway, I've finally accepted that my knee isn't maybe ever going to be back to normal (it's been a good 6 months now) and so I've started training 'around' it. My advice would be to get in the pool for a start. It takes the pressure off your joints and it's good cardio. Plus if you're a good swimmer it's easy to work in some HIIT sets just as you would do circuit sets for insanity. I've found training upper body with free weights extremely helpful as you can stand and it centralises your core (useful for a back injury if approached with caution). Depending on how bad your knees are you can do some treadmill work or even spinning.

Sadly there's no real alternative to insanity, but you can find satisfaction through other forms of exercise and there's so many moves you can take from it and adapt into your training at the gym. Hope that helps, feel better soon!

Fitness Blender. The workouts are free and there is a wide range you can choose from including HIIT training which is similar to Insanity and it's free!
