i am married with a mentally ill teen (panic disorder/social phobia) , hubby works all the time....I do nothing but stuff for her, even let my health suffer...realized last night, when I wanted to snack, it was from being lonley

My husband works on the weekend and I work during the week. Mindless munching is my downfall and cheering myself up with food is another one. I once read a book about weight loss, I think it was Dr. Phil, that pointed out you need to find those areas/times in your life when you stray and do something about those specific times. For me it is the weekends. Sounds like you have found some of yours. Sorry to hear about your teen. Sounds stressful.

Extremely stressful! A very long year! I have a gym membership but can't go as much as I like, she can't be left alone...so having hubby drag out old tredmil, plan on when the munchies hit, to walk, even if it isn't long, just enough to get away0

Maybe you can take her to the gym with you? My daughter is a teen and she likes to go with me. It is about the only thing she likes to do with me right now.0

I think identifying those non-hunger triggers that make us eat is a huge first step. Then figuring out how to redirect those feelings, or deal with them in the first place, is the second step. For me it's a combination of boredom/loneliness. I eat in the evenings in particular after work...usually I'm procrastinating something, or am tired and just want to watch TV, or wondering why I never actually make plans with friends to do stuff. So I sit down and eat instead. It's such a hard cycle to break. When I'm busy I feel stressed and tired, but when I'm not I feel bored and lonely and eat.0

*pal...My daughter has a membership (suggested by therapist) just haven't been able to get her to go
*aman...I agree, at least I am seeing it...hopefully I can stop myself!0 -
sorry you're lonely both my wife and I have bipolar illness. I'm a psychological examiner so that helps a little. I know how hard it can be, whatever you do don't isolate yourself0

I eat due to Being bored. Ugh. It's the worst. I like to be constantly busy so whenever I'm not doing something I want to eat. I work from home on computer so I'm always wanting to eat. Then I notice it at night too once I've laid down to relax in bed..... Bring on the cravings. I've tried everything I can think of to stop them. Not much success.0
