New and Protein shake frustration

i'm looking for some advice. I started a protein shake plan two weeks ago yesterday. I am 5'3 and weighed 152 pounds. I lost 10 pounds the first eight days. Then I game two. Stayed steady for the last four days. No gain no loss.
I'm perplexed as I am strictly on a 1200 cal diet. Some days I don't even eat 1200 cal. I usually mix the shakes with fruit for lunch, maybe some peanut butter. All of my shakes are usually around 200 to 230 cal.
I'm discouraged that I've gained weight and now seem to be stalled. I'm eating sensible dinner at night. No More than 400 cal.
Confused.
I have not been regularly exercising as i have 2 bulging discs and was just this week cleared to add walking.
Any thoughts?

Can you tell me what the shake recipe is? How much protein powder(brand also), plus what liquid and other additives you are putting in it?

Am I correct that all you are eating is the shakes? How much walking?

Is it just shakes all day? If so, why?

sounds like you lost a lot of water weight. aim for a pound a week loss. two at the most. drink lots of water. get walking.
  • No no! Eating too! Having a low calorie dinner. Many things off skinny taste. If it's not a low calories meal I have a small portion with a healthy side. Salad or veggie.
Shakes are body by Vi. (90 cal) In the morning I add the shake mix to my coffee with a fourth a cup of light almond milk and some spices. Lunchtime 90 cal shake mix plus half a banana and fourth a cup of almond milk. Most of my shakes are 190-290 calories,
Eating healthy snacks in between such as hard-boiled eggs, almonds, fruit.
I limited myself to 1200 cal a day and have not cheated or gone over. Usually I wind up anywhere from 100-250 short.
    Thanks you guys.

When you drop that much weight that quickly (10 pounds in 8 days!) that's typically water weight. Now you're eating less than 1200 calories per day, by your estimates, which is really, really low. Your body may find this too low (most people's would), and it's not healthy. Why not try aiming for at LEAST 1200 calories per day for a couple weeks, perhaps 1200-1400 per day, and see if your body is happier with that?

Also, weight loss is never consistent. Sometimes you'll lose, sometimes you'll stay the same, and sometimes you'll gain. Your body is complex.

One thing to think about is that when you drop weight quickly with an abrupt and unsustainable change in diet (i.e. 10 pounds in a week based on consuming shakes instead of regular foods), that weight will likely come right back on as soon as you stop the diet.
  • Thank you so much for your reply. I will try upping the calories a bit.
I haven't found this hard to do it all… So didn't think much about it being too few calories.
I'm not really feeling very hungry so I figured that I was okay cutting as many as I did.
I certainly don't plan to stay on this for very long. I typically eat very healthy and I am moderately active. I've been pretty much sideline to exercise for the last year because of bulging disc in my back.
    I needed a jumpstart!
    :)
I feel like I got it as I'm very motivated… Just a little perplexed how such a strict caloric intake can stall out.
I do feel like I'm eating healthier now than I have been in the last year!
    Maybe just not enough…
