Evening all,

Is anyone else a type 2 diet controlled diabetic??

What have you set your goals at? Any tips?

I am in that boat. I was first "officially" diagnosed in mid-October, so I'm still experimenting with what I need to do. I was also about 90 pounds overweight and ate a LOT of junk food, which is why my doctor is stressing to see if weight loss and food control will fix me.

The main things I shoot for when using MFP are:

-Staying at least 20% below MFP's sugar target. So if my daily sugar target is 50, I strive to stay below 40. Figure that gives me some leeway.
-No "junk food" sugars. I will have an apple, banana, or other fruit pretty much daily, but I have steered clear of cakes, cookies, ice cream and stuff like that.
-Get some exercise in each week. This has actually been my biggest challenge since I do not enjoy it, but I try to hit the target I set in my MFP profile since I know it's good for the diabetes.

As I noted, I'm kinda new to the whole Type 2 Diabetes thing, so I'm trying to see what works. I did talk about all this with a nutritionist back in November and she seemed to think it was a reasonable jumping off point. I get blood work in mid-February so it will be interesting to see if my levels have improved.

    Hope this helps.
