Hi there! My name is Shelly. We moved on our boat six months ago and since I've never been much of a cook, we started eating out at restaurants A LOT. For the past five months I've been working out 3-5 times a week, which I thought would counteract our new eating habits. Sadly, it hasn't, and I've gained 25 pounds! I'm looking to find a new way of eating, a desire to cook, and a way to make this a life long change.

When eating in restaurants why not eat until full or 1/2 of your plate and the take the rest to go. Eat this tomorrow for lunch. Or use the plate method: 1/2 the plate with veggies. 1/4 of protein and 1/4 starch.

queenliz99... The problem is, I somehow lost that thing that says "you're full" and gained something that says "oh, who cares... eat the whole thing... it tastes sooo good"! Hopefully I will get back into my old habits soon and find some self control. For the time being I need to stay away from restaurants until I get to that point.

And... tracking my food will help. I just need to get into the habit of doing so, then I think I will be able to eat out again. For me it seems like I need to get into a routine and once I'm there I do pretty good.

I started out hating to cook and not being very good at it. I have a standby meal I can make in my sleep now (zuchinni, mushrooms, onion, chicken) for when I'm not feeling up to cooking something different. Honestly find one go to and it gets better.

I have a boat so I know how difficult it can be - little fridge and not a great deal of food storage space. We tend to eat a lot of pasta and rice!

We are fortunate to have a nice size fridge, but not a lot of food storage or counter space. I've started using a slow cooker and it's worked out pretty well. Some of the things I've made I've liked, but not all.

Hey. I'm actually living on a boat too! My biggest problem is lack of exercise, especially cardio when I can't get ashore or the swimming isn't good. And my husband eats tons of junk all the time. I don't mind cooking - we mostly do rice and meat. And sometimes I can't get as much fresh food....
