Inconsistent weight?

Hello!
I've been dieting since the first of january, I've been keeping very strictly to my 1200 cal a day diet. I was 230lbs and went down to 222. For the last 2 weeks i've stayed the same weight. yesterday i got on the scales and i was 219, today i got on the scales and i was 222 again. is there something that i am doing wrong? I've been sticking the the diet yet haven't lost the 1-2 pounds i was expecting a week. I know when you start loosing weight you loose it quite quickly in the first few weeks, so i'm worried something is wrong as i haven't lost anything in 2 weeks even on the strict diet.
any advice?

Body weight isn't static...nobody weighs exactly XXX Lbs...thus weight loss isn't a linear function.
There's all kinds of stuff going on that effect your weight on the scale that go well beyond fat..things like water retention/release and more/less waste in the system from last weigh in, etc.
The average person can fluctuate a good 3-5 Lbs throughout any given day and these fluctuations can mask scale losses which is why trend analysis over long periods of time and consistency over long periods of time is important.0 -

Why are you only eating 1200 calories?0

You're eating WAY too little for your weight and you are weighing yourself too much.
For contrast, I weigh 148 and am experiencing losses at 1400 calories, you'd probably be fine at 1600. You should also pick one day/time a week to weigh in. my weight can fluctuate by as much as 4 pounds between morning and night based purely on water retention, so I now only weigh in on Sunday nights.
On a different note, are you using a food scale to help with calorie tracking?0 -
Hey! congrats on your progress so far! dont worry things will get easier soon the first month is always the hardest. So my suggestion would be to increased your calories to 1400 for 2 weeks and see how that goes. 1200 calories is almost always too low unless you have prior medical issues. the reason you are most likely not losing any more weight is because your metabolism is crashed, which we can fix!0

Folks above are absolutely right but there are a couple of things you can try.
1. Drink more water. Up to about 2 liters a day.
2. Eat more fiber. The insoluble kind. Take a supplement if you have to.
These two things will help keep your digestive system running smoothly and are helpful for making the numbers on the scale look a little better thus keeping you a little more motivated.
Also, the ideal time to weigh yourself is in the morning after going to the bathroom and without clothes. Do it every day so you get a better idea of how your weight is trending. It sucks when you step on the scale on weigh in day and you just happen to be wearing heavier shoes or are retaining water or something.
PS
If and only if you have the discipline for it and only after a couple of weeks of daily weighing you're not seeing a downward trend then for one meal and one meal only pig out. I'm not sure of the science behind it but I have seen it work as a plateau buster many many times.0 -
It was Okay'd by my doctor to eat 1200 a day, as the more weight i loose, the better health i will have as i'm currently experiencing weight related health problems. i use a scale for weighing out foods as well, so i know i'm not going over the measurments.
is there anything that could help kickstart my metabolism?0 -

You sound like you're on the right track. Idont think there is anything wrong with your metabolism. You're not going to lose massive amounts of weight like they do on television.
I have lost 41lbs and I have gone down and up so many times..the goal is to have a general trend down over time.

Are you working out along with calorie counting? If you are, it could be that you are not eating back the calories burned while working out, which could be putting you at an even lower net calorie amount.0
