Honestly, the best energy source I have ever experienced is sleep.
For the longest time, I was used to getting 5-6 hours of sleep every night and since I managed throughout the day, I thought that I needn't more of it. Boy, was I wrong.
For months I had experienced my stress levels rising, period missing and I was sick more often than usually, but I didn't think much of it, blaming 'school and stuff' for my stress and depression.
Lately, I decided to try something new and told myself to close the computer at least an hour before bed and kill the lights at 22:00 (I wake up at 6:40). The first day, with an 8-hour rest felt like a normal day, nothing special. The second day, I noticed, that I skipped slightly when walking and instead of a tedious 30 min strength workout, I could easily do a 60 min one. And on the third day with 8 hours of sleep, I woke up a little before the alarmclock, jumped out of bed, ran to the bathroom mirror, eyes wide open and threw my hands in the air saying "I feel the energy coursing through me!" . And it was true, I haven't felt this powerful in a while.
Seriously, sleep is an underrated energy source.
And well, coffee too.

Simple sugars are best for energy if you are working out. If you are trying to stay awake, then probably caffeine.0
