Hi. I'm a 41 year old single disabled mother of two fantastic teenage girls. In 2009 I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis /Mixed connective tissue disease. I went from working a full time, on my feet all day job to barely being able to walk from my bedroom to the bathroom. Inflammation overwhelmed my body and at first I lost about 20 pounds only because I couldn't walk to fix my food plus with meds I had no appetite anyway. Five months into the disease my Dr had me somewhat in remission and I was able to go back to work part time. Fast forward 4 years and the disease had done it's work on my knees and ankles pretty much eating away the majority of the cartilage in my knees. For two years now I've not been able to walk without severe pain. My left knee will not bend straight anymore and my right just hurts like hell. I topped out at 312 last year, my rheumatologist suggested gastric bypass. I thought about it..a lot. I had seen a couple of my friends get great results but my medicare didn't kick in til the beginning of this year. So far on my own I've lost 51 pounds. The last 13 with the help of MFP. I have found myself dedicated to it. I've really upped my exercise in the past two weeks. I can't really go walk a mile but I sure can pedal a stationary bike for 45-50 minutes a day. It was a slow process working my way up to that long but IM DOING IT!! who cares if I have to pull the bike up to the couch because I can't sit on it (hurts my knees too much) I plug in my music and get to it. I'm just here to say if I'm disabled barely able to walk and can do it anybody can
Find a way and make it work. Oh..and I can't wait for my rheumatologist to see my weight loss. Hoping to head on to the orthopedic surgeon to get some knee replacements done. Once I can walk again like a semi-normal person...WATCH OUT!!! I need friends!! I have my off days which tend to get me down words of encouragement are highly appreciated and will reciprocate for sure!!!
