hi,

If I have scanned in the barcode of spinach for example, so I know how many calories I am eating of spinach, do I need to add the whole tablespoon of olive oil to my fitness pal because I am sautéing it? So it would be whole tablespoon of calories from oil plus the spinach?

Yes, weigh and measure everything that goes in the pot.

if it goes in the pan, dish, in the mouth, put it in MFP food diary

I'd also log the tablespoon of olive oil.

Log the oil, too. The only thing I don't log is spices, because I use a lot of them, they are not significant calorie sources, and it would be a pain in the butt to do it. Everything else gets logged.

My husband has learned to sauté vegetables with little or no oil. I think he uses a teaspoon of oil for the onions and garlic. Then he adds greens --and whatever else is going into the dish -- with some water.

I do this too. FWIW, I also measure and log spices and herbs. I usually use the recipe builder, believe it or not, it all adds up.

I bought an oil mister from Kohls and use a non stick pan. I still add the oil to my log but find I use a lot less now.

I use a non-stick pan so I only use about a teaspoon per serving. Yes log your oil also.

That is exactly how I cook my veggies as well.

I also measure and log my spices and herbs.
