Morning all, yes i'm up ridiculously early for a saturday, but I just went get something off my chest. All week i'm fine and happy with my routine, then the weekend comes along! My fam complain that they dont see me a lot during the week, due to working long hours and hitting the gym every morning, so if I try and sneak out or go to the gym on wknds they get kinda mad lol. How can I sneak in more activity and keep myself from picking on all the wrong foods? Help please. Sometimes I just get so bored with nothing to do

At home, I have no gym. And my family HATES it when I even mention working out. So I'm confined to my bedroom for all activity. Here's what I do:
-Bodyweight workouts from www.bodyrock.tv
-Go on youtube or hulu.com and find a show that I like (20-40 minutes long) and do mindless aerobics while watching it (jog in place, high knees, jumping jacks, burpees during commercials)
-Go on exercisetv.tv for guided exercise videos of any kind (usually they're lower intensity)
The food bit I'm still figuring out... heh....0 -
My mother's the same, so every weekend I make an excuse to walk to the shops (because I don't drive) and I power walk there and back. I ends up being a 45 minute workout0

That's easy. Go for a hike with them. Grab the bikes and hit the park. Go to the beach if it's close and play in the waves. Play catch, football or baseball. Garden with them. Play a round of Hippie (Frisbee) Golf.
I don't see my family much during the week either, so I make it a priority to do active things with them on the weekends and we always pic one of these things. One of out favorites is to pack a picnic (which means you get to bring healthy foodies) and go for a hike at Big Bear Lake. I'm sure there are some lovely outdoor places where you can take your family.
When I started this I didn't want to get caught up in losing weight and leaving my family behind so I include them in my acitvities. This will not only benefit you but them as well.
Good luck!0 -
tell them to join in with you..if they dont want to..tell them to suck it up..this isnt about them, its about YOUR health. they should be more understanding and supportive.
sorry i have a very low tolerance for people like that0 -
Maybe family activity? Take the fam out to kick around the soccer ball, roller skating, go for a walk, play tag, whatever you can motivate them to do with you.
As far as food, that gets difficult. Maybe get some good in season fruit (like we bought a watermelon) and share something sweet, but good for you? Also, if you're just feeling the need to gnaw on something because you're staying too still (and you've gotten accustomed to the only time you're still is during meal times during your hectic week), get celery. Your body burns more calories from chewing and digesting celery than is in the celery, so it doesn't really impact your diet. Two medium stalks of celery is 20 cals (Nature's Promise brand, so I don't know if not organic is different), so you could eat 10 stalks of celery throughout your day and it would only take 100 of you cals. Because it's pretty much fiber and water, it fills you up pretty well.
I mean, ideally, you should find a way to modulate your eating and whatever, but I think if you need to trick yourself it's okay. I also saw this neat thing online where you cut up some bananas, freeze them for a few hours, toss them in the food processor (there's mixed opinions on if using a blender works in place of a food processor) and puree them to the point where they are the consistency of ice cream. It's like eating ice cream, but it's just bananas (no sugar or anything added). That might be a good way to stretch your cals while feeling like you're satisfying your restless eating. Oh, and gum. Sometimes gum helps with that (though I prefer to chew on the wax casings from my Baby Bell cheeses since they last longer, lol).
Hope something here helps Good luck!0 -
i have a similar issue in my family dont always follow my new life - so now i changed things a little - i suggest we walk down to the local coffee shop, and although its not as hard a workout what I do is slowly changing my family's point of view
i take my phone, i count the k's i then check the cals in the food before i order and now they are starting to get it
if you have a dog take it for a walk - a long one !
good luck

There comes a time in your life when you have to think about you!!!!! You can't be the best that you can be for others if you're not taking care of yourself first. Kuddo's to you for realizing that :flowerforyou: I'm 45 and just now getting that. Include your family when you can. If they're not on board with your new found fitness, then tell them you'll see them in an hour or two! :drinker:0

On weekends I find it hard also as its hard to find activities we can all do.
I have small children so we do things like bike riding and playing at the park.0 -
I understand everyone wanting to be supportive, however... I'm a stay at home mom and my husband is gone about 10 hours per day during the week just for work. Now, when he's home (overseas right now) we go to the gym together, so that's not an issue. If I wasn't looking to build a better lifestyle though, I could see me getting upset about him being gone 10 hours a day for work, and then an extra 2-3 hours every night to go to the gym, and then wanting to take time out to do it on the weekends too. I didn't move in with the guy and marry him because I don't want to see him more than five waking hours a week.
That being said, I can understand having a hard time with the juggling act. I can understand your family wanting more time with you during the weekend, but I know what it's like not to want to let your own goals slide. It's a tough balance, but I think the 'tell them to join you or get over it' mentality isn't really how families work...0 -
I will try and involve them as you guys have suggested. If that fails maybe i'll sneak an early morning workout on my own. But i 'll try and avoid this as I do this during the week. Waking up at 6am everyday0
