Hello, i only joined MFP 24 days ago and i managed to get my partner to join as well because we both decided that yes we do need to loose quite a bit of weight between us. The reason i have lost motivation is that my partner weighs in on a different day to me (i weigh Wednesday mornings and he weighs Saturday evenings) well i lost 2lb this week which i was very happy with but he has put on half a pound which i know is not a problem as he had lost 7lb since starting and i have lost 8lb. I guess i just feel bad for him and i know that he is probably eating more than he says he is, i go to bed before him so he has time to snack and not write it down (I have to remind him to write things down). Should i just let him get on with whatever he is doing and just concentrate on myself or should i try to encourage him more? How would i go about giving him encouragement without it sounding like i am nagging him. I just feel like giving everything up right now.

Do not give up!!!!!! Quitting is not an option, and most definitely won't help your partner!!! He will get inspiration from you, being positive, and sticking with it, you have to tell yourself, that you are doing this for your health, and well being, and although it is tough at times, believe me I know, it is all for the good! You can't take on the responsibility for your partners choices, but you can take charge of your own.
We have all used, all sorts of reasons not to carry on, but when it boils down to the truth, it's down to each individual to take charge of their own destiny, look at the end goal, and fix your resolve to get there!! Good luck0 -
Thank you, i just needed some reassurance, i guess if he doesn't loose any more weight then it is not quite the right time for him to do it but it can still be my time.0

I think you shouldn't be too down on him for a couple of reasons; if he weighs at night there is a high chance that his weight fluctuated, best time is to weigh in the mornings after you use the bathroom, also weight loss isn't always linear..I log everything and some days I'm up a pound or two because of water retention even though I try to be as accurate as possible and stay within my calorie goal, then it goes back down plus some the next day.
Keep encouraging him and keep up with your routine as well. I don't think throwing in the towel because he gained a half pound is fair. You should encourage him, if he gives up in the end that's on him but giving up on him after a week because the scale didn't go down isn't helpful, unfortunately we all have weeks that the scale doesn't move..focus on keeping up with healthy changes and see what happens next week.
Best wishes to both you and your husband!0 -
I not down on him i just feel a little bad for him as this is the first time in many many years that he has found the motivation to do something about the extra weight and i have taken it worse than him. I suppose that my go to comfort is to eat as much as possible to make me feel better but then it would start and ever decreasing circle back to the start. I am very proud that he is trying to do something and it is a big jump from eating what he wanted to thinking about what is healthier and portions size.0
