Do the cups of black coffee consumed in the morning reduce the amount of water i have to drink during the day? I think so am entering on MFP based on that assumption.

the 8 cups of water is just a guideline. i would not log anything other than water. would not log coffee as water. even food has water in it. i don't log that as water either.

actually, i don't keep track of water at all, but if i was to do it, i would only count plain water.

8 cups of water is a general guideline for good hydration...just stay hydrated and don't over-think it.

I don't bother counting water because I drink a lot of water without issue...but as Aviva92 stated, if I did I would only track actual water...but really, I see little point in actually tracking water.

I don't drink mush water, however I am trying to consume more. Isn't the guild just a suggestion to stay hydrated during the day? Isn't coffee just a way to stay hydrated?

I count coffee and tea as water. I track because I have a tendency not to drink enough.

Yes, coffee counts toward your hydration, along with tea, soda pop, milk, juice, soups, and various foods.

If you want to drink coffee instead of water, that's cool, just remember to log whatever you put in it (like sugar, creamer, etc.). If it's got calories, log it.

As a caution - remember that what you put in it matters a *bit* for calorie count - cream can have a number of calories and sugar -obviously.... so do count the cals, but yes you can also count coffee as "water."

There are some "old school" pseudo-nutritionists that will say that caffein is a "diuretic" and coffee should not be counted... yes it is a diuretic, but that just means you run to the bathroom more - not that you get dehydrated by taking it. Current thinking is to feel free to count coffee as water - but don't get too hyped on how much water you need. Most people don't need, or enjoy, 8 cups every day - and if it will throw you off your journey because you feel that you can't do the water thing?... ignore it. Yes you want to be appropriately hydrated, but evidence has shown that the VAST majority of people will drink when they need to...

Soooo... I guess I'm saying "yes count them" and then ... "consider if you want to bother at all..."

I count coffee as water, but additionally drink about 10-14 glasses of plain H20 a day.

I personally only count water as my water intake or water with crystal light, everything else is just another beverage! :)

    This.

Check the color of your urine, that's a better method than an arbitrary 8 cups per day.

If you are concerned about not being hydrated/not drinking much, you might want to add in some water (since presumably you already drank the coffee and it's not great to start drinking lots and lots more coffee). I often drink a bottle of water with my coffee and also carry around water/have water next to me all day, and just naturally end up drinking a lot.

Unless you take vitamins. Then checking the color of your urine won't work
