Whey Protein - Before or After lifting?

I have always been under the impression that consuming Whey Protein / Protein in general was best if consumed after your workout, but recently I read something that stated "People who drink whey protein before their workout burned twice as much fat as those that drank it after their workout."

Has anyone else heard of this?

    I too just read this, on the Mercola website.....I have been making protein shakes after working out, may have to try a little before and see what happens.

    This website list the benefits of drinking whey protein at different times regarding muscle damage and repair, but I didn't see anything regarding fat loss being different.

    Same here..... would love to know where they came up with the science for this. I didnt read it online, I read it in a magazine ..... and have heard other people talk about it in the past.

    So is this any kind of exercise such as cardio (running, kick boxing) or just weight lifting? Thanks so much for posting this. I'm curious as well. Also, does anyone know if whey protein is better than egg protein?

    I'd still really like to read the study. What was the control? Because strength training ALONE is shone to boost metabolism for 24 hours post work-out.

    However, I will consider a pre and post workout shake. :)

    Edited to say I guess I should have read the articles first.... they DID use a control group. :D

    While I find Dr Mercola rather dubious (I understand the FDA and him are not on very good terms...) the article was reasonable. However, it doesn't tell us anything we didn't know already.

    If you are in a fed state 2 -3 hours before working out there is no need to really eat anything. If not, it is advisable to eat something easily metabolised to power you through your workout. Whey is a good bet because of its fast absorption rate (which incidentally which is why it is recommended post workout.)

    I think will will stick with milk / egg protein in the morning or before bed due to its slow absorption rate if my protein intake through diet has been lacking and whey post workout. I'm pretty much always in a fed state pre workout but if not may consider supplementing with whey if I am at the gym door.

    Business as usual.
