Anyone doing or tried Ideal Protein?

I have been on it for a few days now and am wondering if it is safe? My caloric intake is half of what it shows on MFP that it should be. Worried about going into starvation mode...any suggestions or insight?

That is not good, will wreck your metabolism. I would just stick to what mfp sets up :] makes everything so easy0

whats the go with this one?
can you explain a little better?
What is your caloric intake?0 -
Well, my actual calories as per the Ideal Protein Diet, add up to about 700 or so, and it shows on here that I am supposed to atleast be eating 1200. It is a high protein, low carb diet. So many people have been losing alot of weight on it and I am just wondering how - if - the body will go into starvation mode UNLESS I am thinking it won't due to the high amounts of protein.0

sounds unnecesary hey.
and 1200 is bloody low too....if your exercising of course. i'd only think 1200 was necessary for a sedentry person.0 -
If you're thinking about a diet that will take you below 1000-1200 calories per day, you really, REALLY need to talk to a dietitian or physician first. Think about it this way - when you look on packages of food, the percentages on the nutrition facts are based on a 2000 calorie diet. I did some calculating when I started MFP. If I do absolutely nothing all day but lay in bed and sleep, I still burn about 1700 calories/day. So what you're talking about is a very extreme calorie deficit and you really need to be careful and consult with a medical professional so that you don't hurt your body. There is no reason you can't do a high protein, low carb diet and still eat a healthy number of calories per day. I've done it just with the tools available here at MFP.
And yes, people who "starve" will lose weight. Just ask an anorexic. The starvation mode you're describing occurs when your body doesn't get enough nutrition. It can result in your body burning the proteins that make up your organs to get the energy it needs. So basically, you shouldn't starve yourself if you don't know what you're doing. With the health risks not withstanding, what do people on this diet intend to do once they're done taking off the weight? Most likely increase their calorie intake again, drastically, because they've felt deprived and the next thing you know, there's the weight again.0 -
Thanks everyone! Thinking I need to reconsider this diet for sure.0

I loved the diet, never felt hungry. I lost 35 lbs in 4 months. You can eat as much lettuce as you want. There Ideal protein food I thought was great.0

I am currently doing Phase II (of IV) of the Ideal Protein and it is working wonderfully for me! I feel amazing and I have lost 27 lbs in 11 weeks (prior to this it took me two years to lose 22 lbs). I am also seeing a lot of other symptoms going away (digestive issues, anxiety, depression, insomnia). My complexion has improved too.
I think everyone is different and needs to consider what is best for them.
Do your research and do what makes you feel good!0
