UP3, Fitbit charge HR, or ???

I'm looking into a HR monitor that tracks 24 hours. I like water aerobics so has to be water resistant. The only two I know of really are fit bit charge HR and the UP3. What are your opinions on these or is there another you'd recommend?

Neither are allowed to go into the pool, which is stupid design IMHO.0

for the fitbit hr charge, I believe it said splash proof and to remove before swimming0

I would look at swimming websites. I'm sure they make one for swimmers, though I'm sure it is pricey.0

From what I've seen the UP3 is good up to 10M. The guy at best buy said those were the only two heart monitors that don't use a band around the chest and that's why I'm interested in them. Just didn't know if there was more or what's better.0

I can't tell if the up3 is a continuous hrm or not. I keep seeing that it takes a resting hr and then recognizes and tracks activity. I'm still unsure if it does hr during activity or not.0

I have never had a fitbit before but I think I remember reading that the flex has an inactivity alarm. I can really zone out and not realize how much time goes by. Does the Charge or Charge HR have an inactivity alarm? I don't see it listed on their website.0

I would suggest looking into Polar products, specifically the V800 ($$$$) the M400 ($$$) and the upcoming A300 ($$). All are multisport watches / activity trackers. They require a separate heart rate monitor strap when you want to record heart rate during workouts, but they don't measure your heart rate 24/7.
The V800 and upcoming A300 will be able to track heart rate with the strap in the water while the M400 doesn't, but it's still waterproof and can be worn in the water.
As of right now none of them sync with MFP, but a couple weeks ago at CES, Polar announced they will work with MFP soon, hopefully before the end of January. They've also announced some other updates coming the models I mentioned, including being able to get your phone notifications (texts, social media, calls, etc...) on the devices, which I'm looking forward to.0 -
I'm not sure about the UP3. I know it takes your resting heart rate in the AM before anything such as caffeine has a change to affect your heart rate. But during exercise I'm not positive.
I also don't think fitbit has a inactivity alarm.
I've looked in Polar before but really wanted something without a band because I'll be using it when I'm not working out as well. There are times my heart feels like it fluttering and I want to be able to check it if I start feeling off.
I ended up getting a fitbit today. My husband wants on too so he might use mine when the UP3 comes out (I've had my eye on the UP3 just taking forever to come out). Maybe I'll just write my own review on each I do get the UP3

The Up3 is not waterproof. I think the new Polar one will be, but not sure. It's hard to find one thing that will doo it all. i'm resigned to having multiple devices until the technology catches up, but I still remember when you judged you exertion by iff you broke a sweat.0

Yeah, I triangulate between that, a rough sense of "perceived exertion", whatever I get from the machine, and my pulse rate for 10 seconds x 6.0 -
"It's water resistant up to 10m, so you can wear it in the shower or swim with it." from Jawbones website
I still do my pulse by hand as well if I question the accuracy.0 -
The Up3 will not be released with the ability to track your active HR, it will only track your resting HR. They are saying that they will push a firmware update that will add the ability to track your HR during activity. It is waterproof up to 10m per Jawbone's website.
The Charge HR is not waterproof and can not be worn in the shower or pool.
The Basis Peak is waterproof also up to 10m I think and tracks your active HR. I've read that the user interface isn't as nice as Jawbone or Fitbit, but it does do what you want.
I think, am not 100% sure, that the Mio Alpha is also waterproof and it tracks HR so that's another option possibly. However, the Mio is just a HRM it does not track steps, etc. So it's not a true activity tracker and is kind of expensive for a HRM you wear on your wrist.
I currently have a flex and want a tracker that does track HR and it has to be waterproof to fit my lifestyle. I won't remember it if I have to constantly take it on and off. Because of that I'll be moving away from the Fitbit products. I'm considering the Jawbone if they get the active HR functionality out in the near future, of course they'd have to actually deliver the Up3 first, so I guess time will tell.0 -
DC Rainmaker has reviewed the fitbits, and plans to review the Up3. It might be worth having a look at what he says and looking at the comments as people report their experiences with the product reviewed.0
