Is anyone else doing a raw fruit/veggie juicing fast. I just started mine today and wanted to see if I could get people opinions on juicing. I recently saw the documentary called "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead" and it really inspired me. Has anyone seen it?

30 days of just juice? No thanks. That sounds miserable.

I've done multiple juicing reboots, all successful and all helpful for many parts of my health. Be careful on here though, people will jump on here and destroy you for it with their scare tactics. If you want any specific help, feel free to message me.
  • Yes, seen it and will not touch it. I suggest you do a bit more research. I'd post links but I have to run right now, maybe someone else can help with that? The getting started section of the forums will have some info
    Good luck

Don't do it. It is, at the minimum, unnecessary and can be dangerous for some. Removing the fiber from your fruits and veggies will make your blood sugar spike, not to mention that you need a decent amount of fiber in your food in order for your digestive system, especially the colon to work properly. If you really want to "clean out and start fresh", why not do a 24 hour water only fast and then start eating nutrient dense whole foods at a deficit (assuming you want to lose weight).

Also, some veggies, like carrots, tomatoes, the Brassicaceae family (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc), and dark greens release their nutrients better when cooked. Unless you plan to cook before you juice, you will receive only a tiny bit of the nutrients.

People are still calling that commercial a documentary?

Science and fact are "scare tactics" now? That's an interesting spin.
  • 30 days? Juice only? Does wine count? I mean that's the juice of grapes right?
If wine is allowed, I'm in.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead is a propaganda documentary meant to scare the people who won't actually do any research on their own. It is full of cherry picked science to scare said uninformed watcher.
  • Hi! From my understanding of various cleanses, the medical profession has debunked the majority as either having no actual benefit for your health, or being actually harmful. Any time your doing something over a three or five day period its really to short of a time to do actual harm to yourself. Where your considering a 30 day cleanse then I would seriously recommend speaking to your doctor before you attempt it. Even the guy from the documentary did the plan WITH the help of professionals.

OP: The body doesn't need a "jump start" or a "reboot".

What makes a juice reboot be considered successful? No sarcasm, genuine question.

OP, I don't think fasts of any sort are useful in terms of weight loss. That's my personal opinion. I think it's better to eat real food, meet your macro goals and stay around your calorie goal to see success.

Prepare to have your bank account destroyed, and all of the wasted fiber left behind from the fruits and vegetables you used. They are expensive, unnecessary, and wasteful in my humble opinion. A 30 day "cleanse" is not going to reboot you, nor will it teach you sustainable habits or how to eat properly.

Just like with a computer, if you must do some complicated reboot on a regular basis, something is inherently wrong with the system.

I think I really need to watch this "documentary" to see why so many people react so strongly to it.

Apparently there is a sequel to it. They're both on Netflix instant queue

Completed in a healthy manner (Not skipping juices, adding fats when short, taking fiber supplements) with measurable increased health statistics (in my case... juicing helped my blood pressure lower, completely eliminated my recurring back spasms, acid reflux disappeared and required no further treatment, etc).

    Oh, that makes sense.

Did those things (back pain, reflux, etc) come back when you finished the juice fast?

The reflux came back once after a few months of reverting to poor eating. But if you fast, and continually eat well (which I've done since my latest fast) then no, it never returns. Or at least it hasn't for me and its been over a year.
