Pregnant & Trying to loose 40 Lbs.

Any Advice? I am 24 5' 5", 192lbs, want to weigh 150. i got down to 145 in 2012 and gained back. I am about 2 or 3 weeks along. Is it possible to stay on track while being healthy for the baby? Thank you.

You need to talk to your doctor about this first, but yes, it is possible to stay on track and keep your baby healthy.0

Do not try to lose weight while you're pregnant. You could compromise the baby's development....is it really worth it? You can "stay on track" by eating a balanced diet, take your prenatal vitamins (especially folic acid!), and try to keep the weight gain to a minimum. Talk to your doc.0

PLEASE talk to your doctor. I don't think significant weight loss is recommended for pregnant women.

I agree you need to talk to your dr. I was overweight when I started each of my pregnancies and my dr still told me I could gain 20 lbs. I also had a 3rd pregnancy that unfortunately ended in a miscarriage. It had nothing to do with dieting but I was going to weight watchers at the time and as soon as I told them I was pregnant they said i could still attend meetings but they would not weigh me.
My daughter only gained 10 lbs with each of her 3 pregnancies.
Everyone is different.

My sister lost weight with every pregnancy...by gaining. She grew but it nearly all went to the baby, and she was always slimmest after her babies. Don't diet. Eat well. Take your doctor's advice.0

Nah... I think asking random internet strangers is a far better course of action...
Sorry OP - Given that you are only a couple of weeks along, you may not have had an appointment with an OB yet, I think they don't typically see someone until after 6-8 weeks, so you may be eager to get some advice from others. There's lots of things to think about with a new pregnancy, I commend you for wanting to be healthy for your baby, but your doctor is best equipped to help you with that. He or she is the only one qualified to help you determine an appropriate strategy for the health of your and your baby during the next 37 or so weeks... it may be to work on exercise during pregnancy, which will help you during delivery as well as help ease you into a fitness regimen after the baby is born. It may be to try to control your weight gain so that you gain only a certain amount. It will likely include making sure that you minimize things that have negative effects on the baby (nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, etc) and maximize things that the baby needs for healthy growth and development (folic acid, etc). It's just impossible for us to say.

I've had many friends lose significant weight while pregnant just by making healthier choices. I wouldn't go all out and restrict your calorie intake to some stupid number. But making healthier food choices is a good idea whether or not you are pregnant. It doesn't mean you are on a "diet".... Congrats on your pregnancy and best of health to you throughout.0

I am not planning on loosing 40 lbs while pregnant. I'm not an idiot. Just trying to be healthy. That is my end goal... eventually.0
