I just measured my waist with a tape measure and it says 45 inches. On the other hand I wear 44 waist pants (both in jeans and in slack if it makes a difference). Some of my pants i will need a 42 waist line soon. Why the difference.

It depends where you may have measured. The natural waist is essentially where you naturally bend but a good rule is about one inch over your belly button. Other factors may be the material in which the pants were constructed, they may have a blend that allows for more stretch. The other option could be that the tape measure was uneven. Hope this helps!0

Button your pants and put them on your bed to measure them. You will get your answer then.0

Most people don't wear their pants at your natural waist. You are probably wearing them below your natural waist and perhaps smaller there?0

Also clothing sizes are largely up to the whim of the designer - they don't necessarily have anything to do with inches.0

thanks for the help. Just a curiosity point for me. Important thing is the waist line is going down.0
