You have to click on the username and it opens up the user's profile. There are two buttons 'Send message' and 'Add as a friend'. You have to click 'Add as a friend'. However, I'm under the impression that you can't do this from mobile.

You are welcome to add me, but let me warn you that I will give lots of "great" and "grats" but I will also call you out if I can see that you are in danger of falling off the wagon. To me that is the best kind of friend versus one who just likes every status without actually reading them.0
