How do you stop food cravings?

    Try chewing gum , or maybe some tea with a spoon of honey . Tea helped me during my midnight snack craving . And before you eat alway drink a glass of water . :)

    Keeping busy with projects or other tasks helps keep my mind off of it. Otherwise I eat out of boredom.

    I find substitutions where I can and for things that I can't, I go to smaller servings so I don't feel like I am depriving myself. Was easier when I knew the extra calories in a chocolate bar would just get burned off and it wasn't a big deal so a lot of it for me was rethinking how I look at food after I had my injury and then got sick a few years later. If it's something "bad" like pizza I'll go for making my own healthier option but where it can't get avoided (work meeting night example) then I'll adjust around it during the day to compensate.

    water. tons of water. I've got a gallon milk jug i use for water. i drink from it during meals until i can't drink anymore. helps with feeling full and keeps me from overeating.

    1. Eat often - Your food diary is not open so you may already be doing this. I try to eat 5 times during the day - Breakfast, Fruit snack, Lunch, Protein snack, Dinner. If your not hungry you will be less likely to have food cravings.
    2. I've found that only eating when I'm sitting at the table helps as well. After several weeks of this I find myself separating eating time more and more from other times. If I'm not at the table (or cooking) then it's not food time. (I also try to avoid sitting at the dining table when I'm not eating.)

    Note: Don't look at my meals today for an example. I had to go to a business meeting that broke my pattern and resulted in overeating for a meal. I try to prepare for special circumstances but was unsuccessful this time. :\
  • I find a fiber supplement helps me out.

    I don't cut out the things I crave from my diet

    So if I am craving something and I have the calories over the week I will eat it - perhaps a much smaller portion than normal if very calorie dense.

    If I don't have the calories saved up I won't though - this is the willpower part: drink water, go for a walk, go have an early bath and bedtime (most of my cravings are evening and my bed / bath is up 3 floors)

    It keeps me honest and I like bargaining with myself

    And after a while you don't really get that bad cravings, because you judge for yourself whether 300 calories on that ice cream is worth more than the 3 glasses of wine or the steak - sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't

    I will always ALWAYS log everything I eat though

    Sometimes you crave things if your body is lacking in a particular mineral etc eg crave salt might be lack of sodium. Meat, lack of iron. But if its sweet craving try eating something sweet but clean foods like berries.
