Motivation to exercise after a hard day at work is what I am looking for. I just want to relax and do nothing and it is showing in my health. I love swimming but haven't done it for quite a few years and I am embarrassed to begin at my very slow pace. I also feel challenged by the other fit and fabulous people in the pool. Any ideas on how to feel comfortable walking laps?

By blocking out the outside the world when you're there. Easier said than done, but go in and do your thing. Nobody can judge you for trying.

Michael Phelps didn't win all his gold medals without practice...just remember, athletes started out as beginners, too! :)

Been on MFP 3 years. I used the gym at work until last Friday, when I joined a gym. Been there everyday this week, and so far, so good. I go in before work, as I don't have much energy after a 10 hour work day. I am 63

My advice is to just do it! I understand your trepidation, as I have it as well, but we are worth it, right?
  • Thank you. That is why I love swimming. I got up to 60 laps of all different strokes and methods in 2011. THEN I went back to work! I value your 'easier said than done" comment. It is so true and my return to a healthy life starts with the first lap!

  • We are worth it! In terms of health motivation, there are so many other things happening. I took s year off work and could focus on myself and my partner Once back at work there are so many other people requiring input. I guess I have lost my own perspective whilst I consider that caring for and supporting others is a key joy of my job.
