So I quit my job and was on a job hunt. Sent my resume to clinic. Got a call for interview. As I looked more into the clinic I've learned that it is mostly a WEIGHTLOSS clinic not so much health clinic, the reviews I read is that the doc there is judgmental over the weight...now, I am 270 lbs and although im trying to lose pounds, you certainly can't tell just by looking at me. I have interview tomorrow...help I feel so self-conscious now, I'm really trying not to chicken out and cancel the interview.

THIS! Explain that if you surround yourself with those attempting a healthy lifestyle, you can only become more successful at your own weight loss efforts.0 -

Good one, but I don't want to point out something they might not think of right away... also if I drink pepsi, after working it into my daily caloric goal, I don't people staring at me like "huh?losing weight?how?"
I just want to be treated like average person, I feel if I say something about it i'll be labled as "fat new chick" but maybe if I say nothing they will treat me normal, I hope the only shallow person there is that doc.

And you'll be able to empathize and identify with the clients.0

Just my thoughts...
Don't chicken out/cancel the interview! Something you may want to bring up (before they do - IF they do) is that you would be able to empathize with patients and really be some much needed support for them. You are working toward a healthier you, and you could tell them that too - who cares if they can't tell on their own (yet!!)? It's YOUR journey - and I think you could be really supportive to the people who would need it most. THAT is valuable.
All the best to you0 -
I would still go. Who knows, you may just get it! Good luck!0

Go the interview. Sell yourself and your skills. As it is a weight loss clinic… the subject of weight loss (in general) will inevitably be brought up. Be straight forward about it. Acknowledge it and sell yourself as a future success story and someone who will inspire others… as well being able to empathize with them and help them in a way that other's might not be able to. That's what will set you apart from all the others who also fit the "essential qualifications" that was advertised.0

I used to attend one of those weight loss clinics. Every single member of the staff was way over weight.
Go to that interview with your head high and kill it! They read your resume and saw some value in your experience/skills. Good luck!0 -
Go get it girl! Use the fact that you are a member of MFP and want to get healthier along with the clients. You will be an inspiration and role model for the clients, and they will be the same for you. It is a win/win situation for all. The clinic gets a great employee that their clients will be able to relate to and emulate. Good Luck!0

I went in, but didn't get a job... I am convinced it's because of the weight. Thank you for support!0

you are probably better off. Employers are not supposed to discriminate about age weight etc but they still do. If you want to lose weight this is a great place to do it.0

Yeah, but it's kind of a circle...I need a job so I will have less time at home, but in order to get a job I need to lose some chub.

I'm sorry it didn't work out, but kudos to you for giving it your best shot. There will come more opportunities.0

There are so many reasons that you weren't a fit for the job-don't project that it is because of weight.0

I'm sure there is but honestly when you go to 6 interviews and not a one call back, I honestly think it's due to the weight.0 -
Why did you quit your previous job?0

Keep working on your health goals as you job search, each day can be a better day towards reducing that "chub" and increasing your confidence. Use this time to also improve your job skills with online courses, and don't hesitate to volunteer at some local nonprofit groups to increase your circle of contacts and experiences. Good luck!0

I do work on myself, but I need a job too. Living on 1 minimum pay is really-really tough.

I was wondering this as well. Also, I'm sure you're better off not working at that clinic. Things happen for a reason and that wasn't a good fit for you. Going on interviews (multiple) and not getting called back is depressing, no doubt. But, be good to yourself, take care of yourself and always be confident in your abilities and traits as a person; the size of your body does not dictate that. Yes, we are judged unfairly by our size still, but that's why your confidence must shine through so that people only see that part of you. You can do it!0 -
The reason I quit is simple, company was closing and I kept getting calls for interviews and nobody would let me go, so I had to quit to search jobs. Because while I was working I was needed...as soon as I quit nobody gives a damn.0
