ACL Reconstruction and exercise

On February 28th it's been a year since my ACL reconstruction on my left knee. I'm limited to certain exercises. I can not perform exercises such as running and anything extensive. I need some more ideas of low impact exercises, stationary bike and cross trainer (elliptical) get boring after an extended period of time. I have trouble planning my own exercise routines as I have no background in exercising as I have been overweight all my life.

Hey Aussie I've just gone through my second acl reconstruction and mostly I recommend walking (at different speeds & terrrain) especially if you have been advised not to run. You could also try general knee strengthening exercises like wall sits, knee slides and also holding your leg straight out in the air while lying on your back to strengthen your quads and muscles which surround your knee.
Work very closely with your pt to see if there is any chance of you being able to run again if not there's always the rowing machine which is an amazing workout.
Good luck0 -
Swimming, walking, stationary bike, bicycling, water jogging, water aerobics; incorporate knee/leg strengthening exercises & stretching into your regular workouts for life! (my experiences are a Reconstruction; and TKR=Total Knee Replacement)0
