Cardio or Weights?

I'm 5'5, just under 200 lbs. I'm athletic, I run 5K's and play sports. Should I be concentrating on cardio until I get close to goal (around 150) then working on muscle development or can I do them both concurrently and still lose weight?

Do them both. Never neglect strength training. It's so important and the more muscle you have on your body the more calories you burn day to day.0

Do both. Much easier to retain your muscle than risk losing it and having to regain - strength/weight training is very important in a deficit.0

Definitely both. The weights will give you better body shape as well as helping burn calories. Better body and core strength also helps you run faster/longer, the mix of training helps prevent overuse injury - the bane of runners.0

I'm with the both camp. Cardio burns fat, muscle defines your body0

I'll pile on and say both as well. You can get a hell of a lot stronger even while losing weight for a a variety of reasons. Take a look at starting strength and/or Stronglifts programs. They're made for new lifters.0
