I'm thinking about trying meal supplements to help get the weight off, and then maintain it with a healthy balanced diet ( + exercise ), has anyone tried these shakes before?
What are your thoughts and any results?

Thanks!

I mean, if you really like the shakes and they keep you satisfied, go for it. Personally I'd rather save my money and eat those 200 or so calories in real food- I find that I don't feel satisfied drinking my calories. The shakes don't have any magical ingredients to increase weight loss, the calorie deficit you create will do that.

I have used the shakes, and they are filling, but I only lasted a couple of weeks as I just wanted to have real food more than once a day. I still have some on hand though for those mornings where I just run out of time to make breakfast, or lunches at work when I've been too lazy to pack something.

They are rather high in sodium though like most processed foods, so that is something to watch.

I will say though that having the shakes did help me to kickstart this journey, and get in to the right mindset. But at the end of the day, weight loss does boil down to calories in/calories out, and the only sustainable way to do it is by eating "real" food. If you don't learn to see food in the right way, you will always have problems.

    Good luck!

Save your money and eat real food. They 'work' because they are relatively low calorie and are meant to be a meal, but there is plenty of garbage in any weight loss shake.

If you are dead set on drinking it for convenience or something along those lines, you can get a small blender for about $20 and make your own shakes. For instance:

    1 cup unsweetened almond milk
    1 banana
    1 tbsp peanut butter
    1/2 cup spinach

Turns everything green but you won't really taste the spinach. Will keep you full for hours. About 220 calories. Something like this will save you money in the long run.

I went to their web site to take a look at this diet. It's just another expensive, rip-off, buy shakes and supplements for rapid weight loss stuff. You'd be wasting your money because you're actually restricting your calories which will cause you to lose weight. You can do this for free.

The "diet" they're suggesting along with the shakes/supplements looks like a low-fat, low-carb diet, one meal a day, then two meals a day plus shakes/supplements. Very low calorie diets will cause you to lose weight rapidly but they are not sustainable over the long term.

You will lose water weight, then fat and muscle which is unhealthy. You want to lose fat and maintain as much muscle (lean body mass) as you can while losing fat. You can do this for free by following the MFP guidelines and resistance training (lifting weights).

There are no magic pills, shakes, or supplements that will cause weight loss. It's calories in/calories out. Burn more calories than you eat. Learning to eat a healthy sustainable, over your lifetime, number of calories along with some exercise that you can live with is how to do it, and it's all free (unless you join a gym).

Please don't waste your hard earned money on useless products that you don't need to achieve your goals. Losing weight is hard work but very rewarding. There are no quick fixes, unfortunately or none of us would be fat. Good luck on your weight loss journey.

Why not just take the weight off with a well balanced diet and just skip the shakes?

I've used protein shakes as meal replacements, using a good quality protein. I use Progressive's Harmonized Protein in chocolate (2/3 of a scoop). 1/2 banana, some frozen berries, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 cup water, 1-2 TBS ground flaxseeds... twice a day (for breakfast and lunch). Then 2 snacks daily-usually nonfat greek yogurt (plain) or 1/2 of a protein bar. Then I'll eat a sensible dinner using my remaining calories. Jordistsm is right. It is hard to stay on this for a very long time as you begin to miss chewing on real food. The key is to not freak out and eat a whole bunch when you do start eating food again for meals. Be kind to yourself. If you feel one day (after doing it for a while) that you want to eat a real lunch or breakfast DO IT!..making sure you stay within your calories. I've found this to be a great no-brainer kind of way to lose weight but it takes will power (as does all weight loss). Another tip here is to change your shake's flavours once in a while so you don't get bored.. use different fruits, replace the 1/2 banana with nonfat greek yogurt, change protein flavour..etc. Good luck! :)
