Different people have different results with the pedometers that they link to their mfp accounts. I found with mine, the fitbit flex, it gave me to many extra calories a day to eat and my weight loss slowed tremendously because of it. I got rid of tracking my steps on mfp and went back to my regular scheduled weight loss. I found that the step counters are great for motivation, not so great at telling me how many calories a day I needed to eat.

I have a step tracker app on my phone (Accupedo), but I don't sync it to MFP because I don't want the "extra" calories there. I use the step tracker to, well, keep track, and try to keep a certain average step count, but that's separate from MFP. I only log walking as exercise if I go for a walk specifically for that purpose.

If you both track steps and that adds up as exercise, and add a walk as exercise, then you're double counting it. (side note: MFP overestimates calorie burns, so even counting the calories once could be too much)

I also don't log my calories from my pedometer. I can log 10,000 steps a day while at work doing my job. I just set my activity level at light active. I only count workout calories, and only eat about half of them back.
