I don't think it will.
I NEVER feel like working out during it....but when I was working out I'd suffer for one day and then back on track.0 -
There are a lot of opinions that float around about this. My Ob/Gyn said that it was perfectly fine. The problem arises when you train like a professional athlete and it can cause your periods to stop, or become irregular.
I dont get cramps, but I know many women that say exercising during that time of the month really improves how they feel. If you are worried about your individual case, definately ask a doctor though. :flowerforyou:0 -
I ache all over when Aunt flo's in town, but I still drag my butt to the gym, and I feel so much better afterwards, seems to give my body something else to think about :laugh:0

Lotsa Midol,
For me I cut back and just walk ,so I don't make it too uncomfortable and dread getting back into my regular routine,
from the "flo" that doesn't cause any pain just advise ( hee hee)

Menstruation is going to occur whether you're exercising or not, and you're not going to hurt yourself exercising while it's that time. It's a natural phenomenon that's been happening for hundreds of thousands of years, way back to when we had to gather all our food and travel by foot constantly. The female athlete triad--no period, extremely low body fat, and anorexia--is rare in recreational exercisers. The loss of menses is based largely on the very low body fat, which is due to the very low calories. It's not the exercise, but the lack of proper nutrition that causes the problems in most cases. Extreme training can interrupt the cycle, but I don't think anyone here is training at that level, and if you're menstruating your training level is obviously not affecting it.0

I may take the first day of Aunt Flo's visit off, but then it's back to it. Working out does help me with the cramps and stuff, so does drinking lots of water.0

Our PE teacher in high school would make us run miles if we complained about cramps or AF b/c she said it was "good for us." Either way, I threw up every time. But I also learned quickly to not complain & have extra "supplies" on hand when we had to play freakin' touch football when AF came to town. UGH!
I always push myself to do at least SOMETHING when it is my TOM b/c otherwise I feel even more bloated & crappy the next day.
That's just my opinion. If you want a "real" answer, read what SBS wrote. She's good like that. :flowerforyou:0 -
there is nothing unhealthy about exercising while menstruating. exercise may even less the effects of PMS0
-
Its just a period you can't halt your life for it, you wouldn't call in ill to work for it, so why should you not exercise because you have it, Youre a female not a male youre bound to have it, I know some don't. And i agree with the person before it may the 'exercise may even less the effects of PMS' part, I would have to agree exercise is a stress buster. Have a nice visit from 'aunt flo'0

I agree, I feel so much better when Aunt Flo visit's if I work out! It gives me those happy endorphines that I need!!0 -
I feel like crap when AF is here, so I just do low-impact cardio0
-
Mild cardio, like a stroll through your neighborhood will provide relief for back aches, cramps and water gain. If you are feeling super crappy avoid it. Definitely avoid yoga because some of the moves are not te be done during your cycle.
I know for me that the first day is horrible but if I get on the treadmill for even a mile I feel better, but lets face it we all have those months where curling up in a ball on the couch is as much as you can even muster the strength for
Listen to YOUR body and do what feels right for you each month. No cycle is ever the same so your options may vary each month. I know some months I go like usual and other months I wish I didn't have to even get up for the restroom!

There are certain moves my yoga instructor tells us to avoid during our cycles (inversions), but other than that, I'm not aware of anything you can't/shouldn't do when menstrating. Exercising helps with the cramps (walking at least).
** My daughter wants me to insert a heart, LOL **0 -
I too have found that even just walking on the treadmill at that time makes me feel better. I turn on the MP3 player and let my mind drift for awhile. I'll remember later that I have a visitor.0

It's true... although it is the pits, AF is a much happier guest if I treat us to a few nice sessions of fat-burning fun. And when AF is happy, I'm happy too. :noway:0
