Seriously man, I think you need to find some resources other than this website and read them and you will find that what Dan is saying is 100% correct not only in relation to this site but to many health and fitness experts across the board.

The site is fine for open debate and despite the fact that he has disagreed with me on my original post that is fine with me, he is not the first nor the last person whom will do so.

I'm pretty sure uses stored fat AKA stored energy reserves when your body goes into "starvation mode".

If you have plenty of fat, I'm sure it's not going to hurt anything.

No it won't hurt if you have a lot to lose. I think Dan's point though is when you get down to those last couple of kg's or lb's it's best to lose the weight slowly and not deprive yourself of too many nutrients otherwise you will go into what's called starvation mode or you could also call it malnutrition, which might make more sense to some.

    I agree with that.

I like to call it survival mode, its when there is not enough fuel coming in vs what is going out to keep metabolic rate at its peak.

This was wonderfull information. I recently was hit by a car when riding my bike..I was told no exercise for 3 weeks due to a concussion. So i went into the profiles and changed my exercise to sedentary. That allows me 1300 daily. Did i do the right thing? I also refused to eat any starchy foods in that period of no exercise.

The only way to truly determine that is by giving it a week and seeing the result, true that I would drop the cal intake during that week in theory but your body may require more, if you are feeling hungry then eat. If your metabolic rate is high and stays high by nature then you will need to eat more for that. 3 weeks downtime will not really hurt your metabolic rate if you eat enough. As for starcy carbs that is your choice. Carbs are not the enemy but carb choices can certainly affect weight loss. I happen to prefer that most of mine come from veggies and fruits.

What it boils down to is that there are many paths to weight loss, it is simply a matter of what you choose to follow, the healthy path of which there are many, and the unhealthy paths of which there are many. You can smoke crack and shed weight, is it healthy? Not really lol. You can also eat twinkies and shed weight, but that is not advisable either. Just because you (jasonweinberg ) found a path that works for you does not make it any more right or wrong than the next. I stand behind the healthy path because it has worked quite effectively for me and many others, I do not call ppl down for how they get to the goal, I do encourage them to do it in a healthy manner which anyone with a grain of common sense should. You (jasonweinberg ) totally missed the point of what my original post was about which is how mfp is setup instead you went off on a rant about me proclaiming to be an expert which was never written or stated in the original post. You lost a lot of weight congrats, but to attempt to derail and sidetrack what the original post was about...

Nothing hard to comprehend here. Good original post and follow-up.

    4) Get used to the idea that there are going to be the naysayers out there saying that their "diet" is the best. What else is new, any diet that restricts good healthy foods like fruits, good fats, and healthy carbs is just that it is a diet, not a lifestyle change that will serve you better in the long run. We need to find what works for us and if you trust mfp, log accurately and religiously then it will work for you.

Sorry to sound snarky, but this kinda makes you one of those naysayers. I happen to be on a diet that does restrict some of those things to some extent, and it will be a long term lifestyle for me. But it works for me. Yet you will never hear me say that it will work for everyone.

that was kind of my point all along yet i guess it got lost because i was in fact snarky. somehow, it got interpreted that i was lobbying for some "unhealthy" plan that counters the "healthy" plan when in fact the only thing i really recommended was that people trust medical professionals over random people posting on websites. i just really felt that he was posting theory as fact, exaggerating the effects of "starvation mode" to a significant degree and therefor perhaps doing a disservice to people who might in fact be using this site in a different fashion and achieving positive results. different people, different bodies, different approaches...there is no single or single "healthy" way to lose weight and achieve your goals...i personally never advocated any particular way, yet somehow it became interpreted i was..
