I was going to pick up a bottle of Vitamin Shoppe Ultimate Man Multivitamins. I currently don't take any vitamins or supplements and thought it would be a good start.

Anyone use this brand or others they can recommend?

Currently, I'm only taking a vitamin D supplement for a tested and documented vitamin D deficiency.

I'm personally not a big fan of spending money on supplements that I do not need. I took a look at the supplement facts for that vitamin, and all that supplement will give you is expensive urine. Only so much of the water-soluble vitamins will be absorbed into the body at any one time (for instance, the body will only absorb 200mg of vitamin C at one time -your supplement contains 300mg). Once the body has absorbed its maximum amount, the rest will be filtered through the kidneys and released through urine.

I take the Target brand multivitamin everyday since it is Gluten free. I usually get 300/$14.

My doc has me on Vit D3 and Folate -- she likes the brand Solgar for some reason. Also pro biotics.

Interesting. I was looking at the supplement facts and see what you mean. I took a look at the fact sheet for the One A Day Men's Health and I see that is more reasonable. Most are at, near, or slightly over 100%.

I would just recommend going for a "known" brand name. I've heard of the One-A-Day brand. I would avoid ones that are specific to a certain store. Ie. Costco has Kirkland brand vitamins that my family has found to be less potent.

Centrum is good and cost about 6 cents per day. There is no reason to pay more, and it's fine to buy generic knock offs that cost less. Stay away from anything with "Mega" or "Ultimate" in the name. Mega dosing does Not increase the benefits, its just increases the risks. Google risks associated with megadoses of vitamins.

Thanks for all of the input. I'll look into the One A Days and Centrum.

You should also take pre-biotics as that is what feeds the pro-biotic.

Buy the Wal-Mart generic brand. They literally are all the same. Unless they are specialty ones like pregnancy ones, etc.

I've taken both 1-a-days and Optimum Nutrition's multi. I prefer the 1-a-day based on my needs.

Honestly I'd stay away from the one-a-days and the centrums as there are a lot of unnecessary fillers in them. I used to take women's one-a-day and would get sick from all the fillers regardless if I took them with a meal.

I take a multi, omega 3's, vitamin D3, calcium, coq10 and a bunch of other vitamins. I also get my blood tested twice a year and adjust as necessary.
