32 pounds down

I have been overweight my entire adult life (grew up with abusive family and then spent time in foster care and became total emotional eater). I always WANTED to change and felt ilooked okay but would look much better without this baggage (it feels like its more than fat, its a reminder of all the times I ate to bury my feeling). I didn't change st all after each of my kids were born (though I swore during every pregnancy I would begin to diet once not pregnant anymore .)
It wasnt until my husband made some spaghetti for dinner and the next morning I was on edge waiting for him to leave so I could sit there and eat the half a pot remaining that I realized it had to end. I took the entire pot to the bedroom and sat there eating it and just wanting to die. Thats when I got on my phone and found mfp. I changed the very next day and since then I have been doing great, except for the occasional bad meal.
I've lost 32 pounds since dec. 27 and I NEVER thought it would be possible. Never in a million years! I still have a bit more to go but I'm just so proud.
1. What kick started your loss?
2. Where are you on your loss now?
I KNOW you can all do it!

amazing work! What kick started it for me is I was bulimic for 2 years and I finally knew it was tine to stop. I became vegetarian and I've been cooking way more. Lost 10 pounds so far (going for about 7 more) I know I need to watch what I eat, because if I overeat and binge then I want to puke it all up. I've been doing really well and I am much happier/healthier for it!0

Well done and a great question to ask, it makes you focus on why we are doing this and motivates us to keep it up!!!
For me it was not being able to run around in the park or on the beach with the kids, I felt like I was letting them down....but not now in only 7 weeks I have tons more energy, exercise regularly and have even started running! I feel immensely proud to have made a change we all eat healthier and get out as a family whenever we can....yay feel good start to a Monday, Thanks :flowerforyou:0 -
Congrats to you on so many levels.. it's so hard to overcome the psychological side of it, and you've done an awesome job of recovering yourself..
I am down a total of 37# so far, and it all started because I refused to go up higher than a 14 pants. Plus I love being healthy and active, I have a LOT of stress in my life, and find that I burn it off best by physically burning it off. I began running last fall on the C25K program and loved the immediate results. Now I'm training for my first half marathon. In six months I've gone from a 14 to an 8. I'm the size now that I was when I met my husband, and it feels wonderful. I also have a gastric emptying problem and this program helps me track my food so that I am not tempted to stuff myself and then pay for it for hours or days. I don't have to take nearly the amount of zantac that I used to, either. It's also been a great educational tool, it teaches portion size and accountability.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey! So far, you're rockin' it!0 -
There are a couple of things that got me started - one was seeing myself in holiday photos and being horrified at how fat I looked.
But it really came down to timing - I had mentally been allowing myself to overeat since I had a miscarriage last year.
It sounds really irrational to say this, but I had the mindset that I should have been getting bigger anyway with a pregnant belly so I could eat anything I wanted and that it was OK to get bigger even though I had lost the baby.
I know this is not a healthy or rational attitude but I gave myself until the predicted due date to eat anything I wanted and then started to change habits from 11/1/11 (11 Jan 2011).
Wow, it sounds even wierder when I write it down... but the good news is that I am keeping up my good habits, have lost 12kg and feel as though I have closed the door on that part of my life.0 -
Awesome job! It is people like you that are keeping me motivated! I work my butt off trying to loose the rest of this darn baby weight! I reached a plateau nearly 2 years ago and it wasn't until joining this site that I am finally starting to see a little progress! Keep up the good work!0

First off, congrats on your weight loss!! That's great!!
There's a lot of things that kickstarted my need for "change." I've dieted off and on for years, as well as trying to start exercising but only being able to keep it up for a few days, and never really making it a habit. Recently, a guy my husband used to be roommate's with made a comment about me. His exact words in reference to my husband was that he was "married to a female the size of a house." Thankfully he's about 500 miles away or else my hubby woulda knocked him on the ground...but still, when I heard that I cried He's made comments like that before, another one was "Fatty McFatterson." I'm hurt and offended, but also pissed because I know I'm not THAT fat!! I want to lose 15 pounds, but I'll be really thin if I do! But in order to successfully motivate myself to being any type of weight loss program I knew I had to stop looking at myself in the mirror and telling myself that I wasn't THAT fat... I needed to start looking at myself from an unbiased point of view. That really hurt. So here I am... essentially, even though it was those comments that fueled my want to lose weight, I'm not going to give credit to that scumbag (He also stole $1600 from my husband). I need to get healthy for myself, my husband, and our future children. And it's gonna be amazing to not hear any fat jokes anymore!!0 -
The main thing that motivated me was a friend on Facebook putting up photos of their wedding from 5 years ago when I was MC, and seeing how much less I weighed back then. Just looking at how much thinner my face was made me decide to make a change.0

I think the thing that kicked me in the butt, was shopping for a suit for my brother's wedding. As a typical guy I do not clothes shop, but being told that the store did not have any size 60 suits that would fit really got me to thinking. It took a few months, but I came to the realization that I did not want to be the fat guy forever.0
