Just eat less then what you normally eat. No need to go crazy, just eat less. No motivation needed0

i am on the same page as you I came to the boards to look for motivation0

No one else can motivate you. It's got to come from within, you have to want it for yourself. Why are you here? Why do you want to do this? What are you hoping to accomplish?
Weight loss is all about caloric deficit. Eat at a calorie deficit, no matter what you eat, and you will lose weight - it's simple science.
Set yourself some small goals - meeting your calorie goal for a whole week, or finding new foods that you enjoy that are lower in calorie, or moving more and exercising in small ways - and celebrate your successes. Once you feel some success that will become your motivation.
Good luck.0 -
Stop stopping
You clearly know how to lose weight - keep logging for maintenance
Your motivation should be not putting the weight back on
Take up a fitness drive, that can help your motivation...fitness goals rather than weight ones give you something to achieve
What you actually need is commitment and determination - dig deep and find them0 -
Make a list of all the reasons you want to lose 20lbs. Then decide if they're strong enough to drive you to achieve that goal vs. all the other things you could do with your time. We're capable of so many things, but not all of them at once. Focus on what matters to you.
(E.g., I could never find the energy to lower my body fat from "average" shape to "athletic" shape. As nice as it would be to have six pack abs, it doesn't outweigh being a good partner, father, doing well at my career, travelling, enjoying hobbies, etc.. at least for me.)
Don't waste time/energy on what you can't commit to.0 -
Only you can motivate yourself. I know it sounds so Cliché but it's true. Last year I told myself every single month, just about every single week, this is the week. I'm going to start losing weight. Every month I failed, until this December.
I don't know what changed or what clicked in my head, but I was finally in a place mentally where I was like "Yep, I'm done. Done being a chunk and done making excuses" and since that mental click, I haven't looked back.
If you aren't mentally prepared to lose weight, you're going to struggle and fail repeatedly. It comes easier for some than it does for others.0 -
I believe we motivate each other. I find comfort knowing I am not alone in the struggle to lose weight, gain weight, lose weight, gain weight. I gained 50 pounds this year. I would kill to have gained 20 pounds. Perspective for you perhaps, perhaps not. It could be worse. I am disappointed that I let this happen, but forgive myself. I feel awful about letting myself go. I forgive myself. I have been medically disabled and depressed. I forgive myself. Food was a huge comfort to me. I forgive myself for that too. I am now trying to build a healthy relationship with food, and working on being kind to my mind and my body. It was a tough year. Seeing my scale at 183 pounds the first day I could actually see again (vision/dizzy problems here) had me crying for the whole afternoon. Saying I felt like crap was an understatement. I was devastated, but I did not need to beat myself up. My life was already hard, too hard. That for me was the time I realized I needed motivation and support. The first step for me was acknowledging my weight. I told my best friend-she laughed and said everything a good friend would say like my boobs were big and nobody could even tell I gained weight, and that men liked curves. What a great friend, but that wasn't what I needed to get back on track so I came back here. I posted my weight, and made a ticker. I opened my food log. No secrets, no judgement, just honesty about where I am at so I can start to get back to where I want to be. 183 pounds. I promise myself this will never happen again. I am sharing this to let you know we all come from different places, and that you are not alone in your feelings or your weight gain.
Seeing the success of others, hearing their struggles, and seeing workouts in my newsfeed motivates me to try. Looking at food diaries of healthy meal ideas helps me. I find great comfort knowing that I am not alone in how hard it can be. I also find comfort in knowing others are happy to see me meet my goals. But by being here, logging my food, and 5 days on my exercise I have lost almost 5 pounds. I couldn't do that alone. I couldn't motivate myself. Together, we can succeed.
Welcome and good luck on your journey. If you use the platform of logging, counting calories, and participating it will work. I have even seen posts of disabled people who can't exercise who have lost a pound a week eating a reasonable amount of calories and logging alone. I will send a friend request, and can help on the days when you feel like giving up.0 -
If you stop going on "diets", you'll stop needing motivation!
It's as simple as that!
In the past, I would wait for the magic motivation. I would feel a little enthused to lose weight and I'd go on a "diet", lol!
Before long, I'd get hungry or bored or usually both and then I was "off" the "diet".
After a number of years, I got smart and put 2+2 together!
Wow! If I don't go "on" a "diet", I won't fall "off" and then need the magical motivation.
After a simple deficit and eating all the foods I wanted and needed-I lost the weight and have kept it off! No starving necessary or motivation required AND I got to continue eating chocolate! Win win.0 -
Thank you everybody, so far i have not lost any weight, but then again ive been too stressed to even think about exercise and eating right. Time to get back up and try again..0

Check out Stickk.com. You create a contract outlining your goal, then put money on the line. Each week you check in and if you haven't succeeded, the site charges your credit card and gives it to charity. you can even set it up so it goes to a charity or cause that you don't like. It's very motivating.0

Okay, your asking for motivation so that's what I'm going to give you.
Does this help?

i have school and work as well, and i find plenty of time to shop and cook and exercise.
if it's a matter of time, a thirty minute workout is literally 2% of your day... you can't find thirty minutes to do something for yourself?0 -
@SLLRunner thank you that does help!0

@Capt_Apollo youre right. I actually woke up earlier today so I can work out before school0

I'm with you. I do understand lack of motivation as I've struggled with it for awhile now. Motivation isn't a problem of knowing "how" to lose the weight, it's asking yourself "why?". Back in the day I was a tall skinny girl of 5'9" and 120 lbs. and now that day is over. Now I'm still tall, but 50 lbs. heavier and 40 years older. You'd think that would be motivation enough. But you see, expectations for someone my age is that you're gonna be a little heavier, you're gonna have aches and pains and be weaker, no one notices you anyway... blah, blah, blah. So I have plenty of excuses. What I didn't have was a reason to lose 50 lbs. You need to find YOUR reason. And it's got to be more than to please others or just to have a smaller, less embarrassing number on the scale. When you embrace YOUR reason, you'll do it. Good luck!0

I would ask if you really want to lose the 20? Sometimes I think we punish ourselves and treat ourselves badly because we think we SHOULD want to lose weight, even if we don't actually want to lose it. I've been the before. Saying I want to lose weight, beating up on myself for not losing weight, while at the same time reaching for a piece of cake.
What I had to realize for myself was that it was totally ok for me to NOT want our lose weight. When I gave myself that permission, I was so much happier. It also gave me the opportunity to be self aware, and look for the time when I was ready and willing to lose the weight. When I got ready, losing the weight became easy. I'm motivated, I'm doing what I want, so the steps it takes to lose the weight make me happy.
I would suggest thinking about what you really want right now. Do you want to lose weight? If so, you'll have all the motivation you need inside you. If you don't want to lose weight right now, that's ok too- just give yourself a break. No reason to make yourself miserable by telling yourself how bad you are for not doing what you think you should...
Hope this is helpful-
