I'm soon to be 51and need to take control of my body. It is out of control I would like to lose 60 pounds but realistically 40 to 50 pounds are needed to get me off the morbidly obese notations from doctor. I need help in how much carbs protein and fats to consume. I take in 1000 to 1200 calories a day without cheating. I think my hormones or lack thereof are out to get me. I just want to look like myself again.

I'm 48 and need to lose 75. Hormones play a huge roll, but 1200 calories is pretty minimum. 1000 is too low. You're going to make it harder if you're not eating enough. The tough part for me is choosing quality, nutrient dense foods over my favorite simple carbs! What are you doing for exercise?0

I walk 2 to 3 miles on the treadmill. I have a Fitbit and attempt to get my 10000 steps in usually it's 5000 daily.0

Hi ladies.. saw this post and thought I'd just you know there are a few groups on MFP for women our age and pre/post menopause stages..it can be a little overwhelming on the site when you first start, so i'll post a few of the links in case you want to check them out for support and info.. it's often helpful to have others who have been there/done that and got the t shirt so to speak lol) there's probably loads more you can find too if you use the search function and keywords

I agree that 1000 is too low.
When I started, I was 48 and borderline morbidly obese. I started with my goal at 1200, eating back some of my exercise calories. I found lower calorie alternatives for my favorite foods (Fiber One 90 calorie brownies, for example.) I also learned what a real portion is and kept single serving size baggies of snacks handy, so I wouldn't eat the entire big bag of something. I lost 65 lbs in 18 months and have kept it off for over a year.
I did this, so can you!0 -
Just wanted to say hello along with Snoozie, and let you know that you can do this -- I've posted on the 55-65yearoldwomen's success thread and have lost 41lbs so far using MFP. You can friend me if you like.0
