Having a Rough Time

Hi everyone!

So I'm a college senior and for one of my classes this semester, I'm taking a weight training and conditioning class. It's been phenomenal and I'm really excited I'm taking it because it helps me with free weights which is what I really needed.

For one of our daily assignments we're supposed to keep a food diary, ie we could use this website. I'm eating better, watching what I'm eating, drinking a crap ton of water, etc. However, I'm still exhausted during the day and don't feel any better physically or mentally. It's just really frustrating and maybe I just have too high of expectations of what I want to look like kind of thing.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. You all are awesome :)

In college I recall eating lots of easy micro and go kind of foods (lean cuisines) etc. I would see how adding more whole foods in your diet might help. You might also look at how much sugar is in your diet - you might be crashing in the afternoon because of that. Hope this helps. I am 42 and I am still learning about my body and what works/doesn't. It's a process be patient with yourself.

I think it is tough when you first start and then it gets easier...All the best to you and way to go on taking that conditioning class!
  • You can do it! Don't worry I'm having trouble as well but you can do it :D

Try introducing cardio into your routine. Specifically hiit if your up for it. 20-30 second sprints with 60 second rest on the treadmill or elliptical to start for 10-20 min. After a couple weeks, if your pushing yourself to the limit, your energy level will start to go through the roof. I've been where your at and once I started doing tough cardio I became so much more energetic. It even helped my weight training.

Might be slightly anemic- I was in college. A B vitamin combo might be in order.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear about struggles. Had a peak at your diary and I noticed that there were quite a few entries in the time frame that I picked there were entries where you had very low calorie days, under 1000 calories.....if this is something that is regularly part of your plan, then it may well be a contributing factor to the low energy you speak of.

Also I noticed that your protein intake was always way below the recommended MFP guidelines on the days I looked, as another poster said maybe investigating this, it's an especially important Macro when lifting. Again along these lines perhaps the goal of 1400 you have set it's meeting your needs and it needs revising, especially as you are so close to goal, just a thought.

Certainly, firstly, get checked out by your Dr, if this is all clear then perhaps re-visiting the things I mentioned could help. Read as much on the forums too, plus I would recommend reading this - "Your guide to Sexypants" and other great info that is on here.

Another issue to consider is whether you could be tired because, well, you have a lot on your plate. You are at College studying hard, under pressure no doubt with assignments and also introducing a new exercise programme etc etc.....you get the idea. Is it possible you have been burning the candle at both ends????

    All the best
