Curious, as a newbie how long does the 'water weight loss' stage last?

From what I'm gathering most of the devices we use aren't very accurate (fat scales) and was wondering when my caloric deficit will show concrete results.

Is it all usually water in the first 2-3 weeks?

  • Yes, but it all depends on how long you have carried that weight on you. Sometimes for some people it's 2 weeks, or for some it could be 4weeks. I noticed that with me I went from losing 7lbs first 2 weeks down to 3-4pound loss each week after that. It varies between person.

ullc316: you are welcome to see my blog/diet. all the details are there. Right now I realize the numbers I'm seeing are because I'm so new and unfit. I'm still learning what to expect and I have some medical stuff I have to look at. but I'm watching for signs of fatigue overwork under nutrition. IF you are allowed to look at it from a week perspective I'm maintaining a 1100 caloric deficit per day (peaking as high as 1500 and dipping as low as 650) and eating approximately 1650 calorie daily (highs of 2,300 to lows of 1200.

I'm doing a mostly cardio keeping my HR between 60%-90% but recently I'm getting comfortable at 80%-90%. I do have a high resting heart rate @ low 90's. I've incorporated weight 'training' on a universal gym and only have worked my legs and arms (not triceps or core). I'e been sore from that for 2-3 days but I'm feeling better soreness wise. I also have swam a couple of times. All exercises are 60 minutes in total. I seem do lot of walking when I'm out it's easy to do 2 to 3 hours of just wandering the malls waiting for things like the doctor appointment today. For a new person the walking is burning the calories because I'm not used to walking that much

I'm sure there is much to be improved. and I do need to keep in mind this is a slow process. I have fat everywhere it's gonna take time.
