Hey All,

I'm Danielle. 22 year old girl. I need to loose about 180 lbs to be considered "normal". I am hoping that tracking my calories and exercise on My Fitness Pal will help me attain my goal. My mom has been doing this for the last month or so and has already lost 25 lbs! Hopefully I will too!

Talk to you soon,

Danielle

Hey Danielle! Good luck to you! This has been a positive experience for me so far! And I'm sure you are quite "normal" (whatever normal is!! LOL) I am just striving for healthy!
  • Welcome Danielle,

If you have acces to a local gym or somthing like that they often will have more '' high-tech '' scales.
These scales also show your other stats rather then your total weight like how much of your body is actuall fat and how much is muscle. Some days/weeks/months the scale might not move a lot or at all but that doesnt mean that its not going good you might not lose 5lbs or 10lbs every week but you might lose 1,2 or maybe 3 % body fat that month making it still a great progress but one that is hard to notice with a normal scale. Also dont go crazy on Kcal if you go from say 2000 a day to 1200 a day your body might think its starving and store food like crazy. Just try to eat healty and a few small portions over the day to stimulate your metabolism and start small say 20min walks every other day and if you notice its to easy for you just walk longer or more often etc to keep progress going.

Best of luck to you !

First let me also provide a hearty welcome! We are so excited to have you on board with us and hope that you'll reach out to the people who move you through the posts to make friends and build a support group. I don't know if I can adequately begin to explain just what a difference that support group makes!!!

Let me also say that the posts so far have been great and I especially liked KaizokuNoMaiku's post to you about the scales...

For my part - I cannot begin to tell you what "normal" weight is LOL. I have roughly 105 pounds to go in my estimated weight loss journey, although many of the "calculators" out there suggest that I still have 150 or so. Just remember that the healthy lifestyle you are building will better determine how you feel and what you look like then the scale will...
Getting an accurate reading on a scale can be important, but more important is using the same scale to weigh in consistently from week to week... My scale is off by 6 to 18 pounds from the high end Doctor Scales I've come across, but it's always off by the same amount to each scale, so I can still use that scale for my weekly weigh ins while I currently spend my money on better food, workout equipment, etc... LOL!

Let me just once again say welcome and make a heartfelt hope out to you that you'll join in to the discussions, share your feelings, and make friends with people on the boards... Building a good support group that you can talk about things with is SUCH an important part of the process - I hope you'll jump in with both feet and love it as much as I have!!!
