Check out the groups to find discussions of various stomach surgeries.

Please pay attention to the lifelong problems the surgeries cause!!!
If you can succeed controlling your intake for the few weeks before surgery,
and you think you can succeed controlling your intake after surgery (you'll have to, or you'll get sick or rupture your stomach),
you can control your intake without surgery.
You can't treat it as a "diet", something temporary, because once you think you're done you'll go back to your old habits, the ones that got you fat in the first place.
This has to be a complete change in your life.
My doctor (head of the weight loss clinic at the hospital, endocrinologist specializing in overweight people) says that gastric bands are very commonly reversed. So learn from the experience of people who have had one... don't do it.
According to my doctor, I've lost as much as would be expected from someone who'd had some of the more restrictive stomach surgeries (bypass, sleeve), people who have to eat strangely the rest of their lives, people who have malnutrition problems (because of the surgery, that's it's intent).
Actually, about 25 lb ago he said I'd lost as much as could be expected from someone with the gastric band.
But I haven't had surgery.
I'm free to eat the foods I like, however much I like. Only now I usually choose to have reasonable portions, where in the past I'd pig out. I was always hungry.
Hanfordrose is in her 60's and has lost over 120 lb in the last couple years, going from morbidly obese and in a wheelchair, barely able to walk (the doctor told her to stay off her feet or her bones might splinter) to a pretty average-looking person, riding her bicycle around her subdivision.
Go look at her blog to see the amazing pictures.
I did a newbie help post which includes links to some helpful info, including sexypants, accurate food logging, setting goals (weight, calories, macros), motivation/encouragement...
Go read. You can still cancel the surgery & decide you're strong enough to lose weight without altering your body.

BTW, your ticker says you only have 84 lb to lose???
How did you find a surgeon who'd do the surgery?
I thought the guidelines were that a person had to be more than 100 lb overweight. (Or is it over a 40 BMI?)
I was 110 lb over when I started in JAN14. The first meeting with my specialist, he offered to put me on the track to surgery and since I'd done my research I quickly & vehemently declined.0 -
I'm nearly 19 stone so my bmi is high, my weight loss target is 7 stone or more. Therefor I am a good candidate for the band.0

I had gastric bypass 17 years ago and have never regretted it or gone back to my original weight. I did not keep it all off, however, and plan to find out if I am a good candidate for a revision surgery. I do have to take supplements the rest of my life, but it is preferable to being disabled from obesity. It is only a tool, but for many of us who have struggled with obesity our entire lives, it is the only thing that has worked long term.0

Hey! I had gastric band surgery in 2013 I was 19 stone (120kg) and have got down to 71kg in just over two years. Overall I'm so pleased with the results - but it is a major life adjustment and the decision should not be taken lightly. It's only an aid and not a magic solution, it's a major lifestyle change, and obviously not all cases are straight forward and with any surgery there can be complications or failure stories, but also plenty of successful ones!0
