I have also been married about 5 years and am trying to get in better shape before starting a family. So you're not alone! I'm down about 15 pounds. In an ideal world I ought to be down another 15-20 pounds but as long as I'm on the right path and developing healthy habits, I'm happy. I figure the healthier and fitter I am, the easier pregnancy, labour and post partum will be on me. Good luck to you!

Estrogen is stored in your fat cells. When you have rapid weight loss it increases your fertility. Also being overweight can be dangerous while being pregnant. Good luck on your journey!

I have 4 kids and I can say from experience that pregnancy is MUCH more pleasant when you're in shape. My first two pregnancies I was overweight and in terrible shape. My belly stretched so big my stretch marks bled and I had no energy. My tummy never looked nice again. I really regret not getting into shape first. My third and fourth pregnancies happened after I had lost weight and gotten into better shape and I had so much more energy and felt so sexy and powerful. On top of that my last two births were easier and my babies were much happier and healthier babies. I really believe it had to do with my health during pregnancy. I HIGHLY recommend focusing not only on your weight but your fitness. Especially those core muscles. You won't regret it. I promise.

I'm doing the same thing. My weight had an adverse effect on TTC so even though I still track my cycle on Glow, we are no longer actively trying until I lose 25 more lbs and reach a healthy weight.

We TTC for about a year before my doctor told me losing the extra weight would increase my fertility. Now the thought of trying for a baby again gets me motivated to lose my extra weight.

That's a GREAT idea!! Being a healthy and happy weight before pregnancy is very beneficial. It will not only help with fertility but it will lower the risks of pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes and pre eclampsia. And if you start an exercise routine it will enable you to keep up a good cardio routine during your pregnancy. You and baby will both be happier if you go into the pregnancy healthy!

I am trying to lose weight for several reasons, to be healthier TTC and during pregnancy hopefully is one of my reasons. We are getting married in September and going to try for a baby after that. I thought that it would be more pleasant if I was in better shape. I am fairly healthy but overweight. I hope to lose 20-30 lbs. I have read that it is easier, your body fairs out better and you feel better after if in shape and maintaining muscle tone throughout pregnancy. I want to be as healthy as possible to create a good environment for a potential baby.
  • I am also currently in the process of losing weight in order to get pregnant. I lost 100# before my husband and I first met and gained it back (and then some) within the last four years.

After a very sobering visit with my doctor last week, I learned that I am likely unable to get pregnant at my current weight and it would be unsafe for me to do so. I am MORE than determined to lose the 100#'s and then some again in order to start expanding our family. It's so great to hear success stories and to see that others are in a similar situation. Thanks, everyone!!
