Not hungry!! Me? Lover of food always binging, what's going on?

So I am day 10 in and I am genuinely not hungry. I am always hungry so I am finding this strange. I am thinking a lot more about food rather than shovel it in my gob in this time. I am studying nutritional values of things rather than ripping open the packets and devouring them. Is this a normal, harmless thing or am I obsessing?
I am drinking my 8 glasses of water, walking everyday and eating quite plentiful and within my allowances, but I have a feeling it shouldn't be this easy... has anyone else felt like this in the beginning? Or will I wake up tomorrow and feel totally different. (Its 3pm and had some toast at 1pm thinking I should eat something rather than go all day with nothing)

Yes I was that way... Ate under 1400 calories for a couple weeks in fact (my goal was 1700).

I'd just say... enjoy it while it lasts LOL. The more I've lost, the more active I've got, the hungrier I've been.

Not feeling hungry is an initial side effect of starvation...... your not doing that right?

It could be any number of things. Your diary is closed so I can't confirm anything, but . . .

Eating "better" food could be causing a higher satiety level than "junk" food you may have been eating previously. 100 calories of broccoli is far more filling than 100 calories of Doritos. Higher fiber and protein in your diet will keep you full longer than a mass of cheese-flavored carbs.

Is it possible you weren't actually hungry before? It's easy to mistake boredom, being tired, being stressed, being thirsty, etc as being hungry. Perhaps you're just paying enough attention now to be able to tell the difference.

As someone said upthread, it will get a bit harder, especially if you start adding in a lot of activity. But I had kind of a breeze at the start, too. It's new and exciting, and you see that first water weight just fall off, so it's easy to be super motivated right out of the gate. Just keep it up, as long as you are properly fueling your body, you'll be just fine.

Yep. I'm on day 196, consistently under my calorie goals, and very rarely feel 'hungry', though I also very rarely feel 'stuffed'. It felt weird that it seemed so easy too... from day two I was eating 1/4 a 'typical' day's calories (day one was eating what I typically do to see what I had to work with) and feeling fine. I think some people would eat when not truly hungry, and actually thinking about it makes them realize they're not hungry. Veggies, lean meats, etc are also way more 'filling' calorie for calorie than fried/fatty/sugary foods, generally.

The weirdest thing I had to be careful about at the beginning: pre-logging sometimes made me forget to actually eat what I'd logged. It's like the act of entering food replaced the habit of eating. I'd be fine all day, then suddenly *ravenous* at a weird time and look at my log trying to figure it out... then: woops I didn't eat that granola bar I'd entered! So be careful about that XD

My diary is open please take a look I have been eating well these last ten days, only today not being hungry. I am eating though I know it's silly not too. I just look at whats in it then think do I really want to waste my allowances on that and sort of talk myself out of wanting to eat it, which would in fact prove I eat because I don't think.. and that is why I have an issue with weight in the first place

Thank you I have opened up my diary it was set at friends only. Please open to advice with my food diary. I think you knocked the nail on the head and what seems to be the logical explanation as I said earlier, the brain is overtaking the gob, yes my answer to anything is eat... lets go clothes shopping (lets find a cafe and have something to eat), visitor coming over (let me get some cakes in)... good film on tonight (lets get the popcorn and sweets)...

Yes food fills a void for me, I can actually say it out loud, thanks all. Now its to keep the brain working and stop the gob from gaining control again :)

I sort of know what you mean, I don't forget to eat what I have logged but I do make a lot of adjustments throughout the day, sometimes even after I have ended the day. If I don't have access to my laptop and have no signal to use the app I take a photo of my food so it reminds me by looking at it what was in it, so far so good lol

I have days like that. Other days especially if I have been more active, I am extra hungry. Perhaps your hungry signals are resetting themselves closer to normal. On days when I have worked hard and I am extra hungry, I eat more.

one strange day isn't enough to make a call on- sometimes you're so ravenous you're going to stab someone.

Some days it genuinely doesn't matter when/where/what you consume.

    I wouldn't sweat it.

Haha love it! I hope I can keep the restraint when I have a day like that, or my hubby better move fast

LOL- yeah there are days when you are so hungry you are stabby- it's bad.

My office knows I don't generally eat till after noon- closer to 1. (The later the better)... .and LOL- one day did I eat my whole lunch by 1030,.... by noon I had my head on my desk practically sniveling like a 5 year old missing her afternoon snack and whining/crying - someone walked over and asked what was wrong- I cried
"I ATE ALL MY LUNCH ALREADY"

I was a sad panda face. LOL- it happens.

Looking at your diary -- just make sure you're weighing with a scale! You'll find some things are way more or even way less than you think, just eyeballing and guessing. (please disregard if you do weigh stuff :) )

I second what JoRocka said. For instance: some days I could almost go all day without truly being hungry. And then there are days like today where I woke up hungry, have eaten all of my food for the day and am still starving!!
  • Yes my kitchen scales take pride and place in my kitchen. I do make adjustments during the end of the day to my diary, I am hopeless with my mobile app and find putting the correct measurements in when I am on the laptop. eg. I registered a morrisons stir fry on my phone and it was 500g but in fact it was 300g and values were lower.. I do prefer to eat a big evening meal and load my plate with spinach as the evening is when I am known to binge the most. I was advised on MFP by another member to savor each mouthful of food and chew slowly (what I look like doing that I dont know) but I think it works - that and the water which before coming on here I would be lucky to have 1 cup a day
  • I discovered what the 'I could kill someone for food' feels like after all, this definitely for me looking back was a novelty moment, I have closed my food diary now as after my binge last Monday (I went away) I did log everything I decided to give Slimming World a go (from today)so I have gone back to it being at friends only. Thanks for all your replies btw and I am 7lbs down in 2 weeks, so glad I was pointed in the direction for this site, it is total amazeballs :)
