Enjoy! It's one night, you won't kill your diet with one night. Just get back on track the next day.

Avoid the ribs if you're watching calories! I was shocked one day after eating bbq.

Anything "fried" will be higher calorie.

Seafood (not fried) is generally a good choice.

Me though, I would just get a steak. Lol

I tend to plan ahead for meals like that. I'll look at the menu the day before and pick generally what I want to eat and then find comparable items in the database. This allows me to decide what the rest of the meals during the day will be and still meet (or be close) to my calorie goal.

ETA: I'd probably order the 10oz sirloin (only eat half) with hopefully a fresh veggie as the side du jour and a salad with dressing on the side.

Either plan your earlier meals so you can splurge or:

    1) Beware of sauces, sauteed or fried foods. Look for works like Baked and Grilled.
    2) Either substitute the starch with a veggie or get something like a baked potato (limit butter/sour cream.
    3) Salads are ok, dressing on the side. Beware of heavy, fat laden dressings. You are better ordering an entree with a lean meat and a steamed veggie over every salad in a restaurant - they like to make you think Salads are healthy but they really aren't in restaurants.
    3) Order a meal with a box. When the meal comes, put 1/2 in the box, 1/2 in your stomach.
    4) If you can fit in a drink, dessert or apps, go for it. If not, eat the meal.

Those are my tips. That's what I do. Unless it's MY birthday and then I eat whatever the heck I want.

yesterday was my birthday dinner. it was my only meal for the day. i had a very busy day, so didn't really have time to eat anyway. I did drink tons of water all day & green tea. i splurged, house salad easy on the dressing, bread, steak/veggies washed down with 3 lite beers. Later coffee with a very small piece of pie & ice cream. I was actually pretty full hence the small piece of pie. I went over about 10 calories. that's how i handled that.

I'd try to stay low carb at dinner since you're having cake and ice cream later.

Plank salmon without the glaze, or the 9-10 oz famous filet. Hopefully the side du jour is sometype of vegetable without added sugar. If so, I'd get that and/or the garlic mushrooms. Salad if they have a vinaigrette or low-cal dressing.
  • For a steak it's $25 dollars. Montana is very very pricey.

I may get the chicken with mash rooms and potato and a veggie.

Wow! Yeah, I'd skip the steak in that case. Chicken sounds good.

    Eat all the steak.
    Eat all the cake.

and why is 25$ for a steak expensive? That's pretty standard. Most of our good cuts of meet run north of 35$.

    a cheap steak is 20-30.

It's extremely expensive for my area. Even filet mignon done right isn't that much. Unless you want grass fed. Grass fed is that much.

I live in the Tri-state area- even a generic 'good' cut at like Long Horn is 20-22$. I've paid over 50 for steak.

Okay- scratch that- i'm cheap. My BF paid for it-lol.... because we like steakhouses- but typically it's 35 for a decent steak.

$25 for a steak is not at all expensive at a decent steak place. Heck, a good to great steak place will be quite a bit more then that. Especially for a really nice cut and well aged piece of meat.

As for the OP, I would have what I wanted. Birthdays only come around one time a year so for me, it would be a splurge. I splurge on 3 days a year. Birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They won't mess up any weight loss.

yeah 25 seemed more than reasonable for a birthday celebration.

For lunch with coworkers- meh- probably not going to grab that- but yeah for a big celebration- go for it.
  • I had the steak.....with potatos. I gained 1 lb. not too bad. Had cake and ice cream also.
