Hi all, I do weight training as part of my fitness regime. When I enter the weights I am lifting, I notice that I am not getting "calorie credit" for this exercise like I do when I run or paddle or other aerobic activities. Am I doing something wrong, or does this program not give extra calories for doing weights?
thank in advance

  • I have noticed the same and find it annoying. I know you don't burn as much doing strength training, but it should count for something. no?

There is a weight lifting entry under te cardio section that will give you a calorie value.

MFP tracks exercise over time. Weight lifting over time is wildly inaccurate. For example, we may both do the same exercise and the same weight, but I pause 15 seconds between sets, while you pause 30 seconds. You also take 35 seconds to complete one set, but I take 45, etc, etc, etc, etc.

So the weight lifting entry will give you an extremely rough estimate. If you want to adjust it yourself, a good rule of thumb is .01 calories per pound per rep. So 3 sets of 10 at 100 pounds would be about 30 calories. But even this is just a wild approximation.
