i want to know if tracking my steps with my iPhone uses my data , because when I use the map app it does.

I had the steps tracker on yesterday and drove to bike trail with my iPhone in the cat I think it counted that distance as walking , Do I need to turn it off while in the car0

Most applications are using the various motion detection sensors in your phone as a pedometer, when the sensor detects a "bump" it counts it as a step.
Assuming you aren't using an app that measures distance via GPS movement and translates that into steps, it won't be consuming data.0 -
If you are talking about Apples own HealthKit App that tracks everything from what you eat to how many steps you've taken (provided you keep your iPhone in your pocket). No, that App does not use your data..... The map app that you mentioned only uses data as it needs to use cellular towers to obtain info.0
