I am losing my hair...in the past 5 months I have lost over 50 pounds and 28 inches!! Pounding it out...and doing good. I talked to my doctor and she said that I am not getting enough fat in my diet!! What??? ME not getting enough fat??? That's a first!!!!

So beside Avacados.....which I ate for dinner and lunch today in my salad.....what is some other healthy fat? I can't do dairy!!!

Any help will be great!!!

Thanks!!

You know its funny, even doctors can't agree. My doctor told me it was a too little protien in my diet. So I make sure I have some with every meal and snack.

My doctor and nutritionist say its from too little protien. Others in my group have had this problem and take Biotin. It is very common in rapid weight loss.

Our nutrionalist said butter...real butter...not margarine...but butter. In moderation it is full of really good fats that will stick with you longer and you won't feel so hungry. Try it. Also, check into your birth control, if you use it. That can do the same to your hair as well.

Consider taking a Biotin supplement if your multivitamin doesn't already have it...couldn't hurt!

Walnut and olive oils. Also omegas 3,6 and 9, which are in linseeds, or available as a supplement. Humous. Nuts.

Agreed with Stanvoodoo! I'm a lap band girl, and one of the major side effects from it is some hair loss, and it's from not eating the protein that your body needs. I take Biotin along with my multivitamin that already has Biotin in it, but the supplement completes what my body needs. I've lost a small bit, but the biotin REALLY helps!!!!

I also drink a protein shake daily, not just because of the hair loss, but because I love to get creative with the shakes. I make them with coffee and I use the chocolate powder, and add the sugar free raspberry syrups (found right next to the coffees in grocery stores). I play around and find some wonderful combinations! And it's not high in calories, so I use the shakes as a snack.

When you come up with a remedy, let me know, would ya?

Nuts, esp. walnuts (high in omega 3's). Flax - oil on salads or seeds ground in a coffee bean grinder and sprinkled on cereal, baked goods, or non-dairy yogurts or smoothies. (Flax is high in omega 3's too.)

Both my dad (67) and my hubs (46) were losing their hair - they went vegan and the hair loss stopped in its tracks. I kid you not! Not to say there aren't any bald vegans out there - there are (hello Moby! lol) - but it did something for my dad and hubs!

I am having the same problem. But I thought it was lack of protein, even though I get around 60g/day of good protein. I also have lost 50 lb in 3 months, so i think that much weight loss kind of puts your body into shock. Although my nails are still healthy, so I cant figure out why my hair is getting so thin.

Eat chicken cooked with some Olive Oil, or eat some nice steak every now and then. No reason to cut fat out of your diet - you NEED it to survive.
