I do not have gym membership so I do all my workouts at home. I am currently doing C25K and am wanting a low-impact strength training workout to do on the off days. Anyone have a DVD suggestion??? I have also seen the book New Rules of Lifting for Women and was considering it...any opinions? Has anyone else used this book??
Thanks!!!

New Rules of Lifting for Women is a great book and I would recommend it to anyone who really wants the down to earth mythbusting of what you'll find in 95% of any other resource you'll find.

it's an easy read and full of good humour as well. Also contains an entire years worth of periodized training programs that you can do based on your goals.

    Cheers!

I'm reading that book right now based on rave reviews from other MFP members. I need to buy heavier dumbbells before starting the program. My local library has the DVD "Power Body with Rob Glick" and it's great! They use a step platform but I don't have one and I can still do the entire routine. It's a total body workout using dumbbells.

Don't know about ChaLean, but 30 Day Shred isn't strength training. It's cardio while using some weights. There's a huge difference.

I like Jillian's Shred It With Weights, can use a kettlebell (recommended) or dumbbells. I thought it gave me quite a workout, I used a 15lb kettlebell.

When I first started strength training at home I used Bob Harper's Pure Burn Super Strength DVD.. its awesome. I dont think many people on the forum have tried it but its a full body hour long strength workout that left me in a puddle of sweat time and time again. All you need are some handweights 5-15lbs recommended and maybe an exercise mat. You guys should try this video!! Currently I am loving Jillian Michaels 6 week 6 pack dvd and Jackie Warners Xtreme Crunchless Abs.. I hate training my abs at the gym ha.

I love going to the gym, however the next best thing would be using a workout DVD. I recommend Chalean Extreme or P90X for strength training. I would be bored out of my mind if I had to follow a book at home.
