Canadian Coffee: Timmy's vs Mcdonald's

First my confession... I'm a coffee junkie. The reason I'm so overweight is that I have spent the past 10 years eating nothing all day, drinking pots of coffee with 2 creams in each cup and having one meal in the evening. My weight loss plan is to start eating more sensibly and regularly, and drinking less coffee!
I've cut down to 2 double-cream coffees per day. I know, no need to lecture, I have to have one vice in life.
The question is this... I'm having extreme difficulty figuring out how many calories are in these cups of coffee and here is why.
Lactancia half and half cream (my brand at home) says 1 tbsp is 20 calories.
McDonalds doesn't give you this info on its website, although they state that they use "regular 18%" which is 30 calories per tbsp.
Tim Hortons calorie calculator says their large coffee with 2 creams contains a whopping 172 calories!
What the heck kind of cream is Timmy's putting in their coffee? What accounts for the huge difference? And what is the true calorie count in McD's coffee cream?

I popped over to their nutri calculator. Small cream -> 40 calories (80 for double), Large cream -> 90 calories (180 for double).
So their small is already a double serving, and their large is a quadruple serving. Which means a large double is an octuple-serving.
Plan accordingly...

Tim Hortons uses 18% cream. I should know, I was the queen of the Triple Triple. Even though I was only having 1-2 per week, that was a LOT of calories. I miss them

Oh by the way, McDonalds.ca says that a large double cream coffee has 160 calories. http://yourquestions.mcdonalds.ca/questions/211450

I've always maintained that Horton's puts crack in their coffee! lol
Have you ever tried unsweetened vanilla almond milk in your coffee? I never had until reading it on here. You get a whole cup for 30 calories! And I use saccharine tablets in mine...the small ones. They are old-fashioned and I have to get them online. No flaming for artificial sweeteners...I know...and I don't care.
My solution for Horton's is to either get it black and add my own stuff at home, or use the Horton's k-cups.
Here's to coffee drinkers!0 -
I was in McDonalds and this man came in an ordered a coffee with 10 sugars and 7 creams! Then said "Wait! Only 9 sugar" LOL!

Please tell me you have a Dunkin Donuts near you. I know there are some in Canada.0

Nope, no Dunkin Donuts. But I think I'll be having my double cream coffee only at home where I use the half & half and it's 40 calories. No double double though... can't stand any sugar in my coffee.0

In the USA to McDonald's little cups of cream are 15 calories each per McD and 20 calories per MFP as of a few days ago when I checked online. Based on that putting 8 of them in a cup of coffee gives me about 150 calories and some of my required fat. Cutting out the carbs and boosting the fats to fill the gap left by the missing carbs is working for me on several levels. With that being said coffee is not the best thing to drink in my case but it does a good job of melting my 4 tablespoons of coconut oil to start each day.0

so go down a size in coffee and save calories0

Wow, can I ever relate. I live on coffee. I take a double double. Usually McDonald's, but sometimes Tims. I really need to cut back on the habit. I think I Will try the almond milk, and make more of my coffee at home. thanks for that suggestion!0

I'm from Canada and have lived in the UK for 4.5 years now. Whenever I fly home I always went crazy for Tim's because I miss it! This Christmas was an exercise in self control because I knew that drinking a double double, or French Vanilla wasn't good for my weight loss efforts.
You could ask them to replace the cream with milk... not the same taste, but better calorie wise. I always asked them to use chocolate milk in my ice caps... which is very yummy!0 -
Don't know how Horton stays in business........ their coffee is like trench water, even their dark roast is awful. I would drink McDonalds Americano if I had to choose.0

I've watched people adding sugar to those sickly sweet gas station cappuccinos. They start at around 150 calories for an 8 ounce serving (and good luck finding a cup smaller than 12oz).
