How do Clothes fit after weight loss?

I was 245 and a size 22 when I began this. Now I am 213 and a size 18. However it appears that I'm an 18 belly-wise and a16 thigh/leg wise... So all my pants look baggy and weird. Will this go away? How are clothes fitting you after your weight loss?

First of all congrats on the loss! My waist has shrunk but no so much my legs. I find that size 14 is too big, but a 12 can be too tight over my thighs. I just go with - its better to have them a little baggy than too tight. I am just trying to wait until I get to my goal weight and then buy new clothes, the one I have now will have to do. What I am not looking forward to is having to buy new bras and underwear as that can get very expensive! I am sure my boobs will start to shrink soon :(

Haha they aren't....my favorite pair of jeans no longer fit. I still wear them sometimes. I had to borrow jeans from my sister. The only bad thing about weight loss:)

My jeans are loose in the waist but not in the butt - I'm wearing an 8, but once this rear of mine shrinks I'm gonna jump on some 6s. I think awkward-fitting clothes are one of those things we have to live with while we are doing the losing, since fat leaves different parts of the body at different times.

I started at 234 at a tight 20 (probably should've been in a 22 after seeing all the red marks around my waist after trying to squeeze into them for an entire day) and I am down to 221 so I have lost 13lbs. I haven't quite dropped a whole pants size, but I know EXACTLY what you mean - my 20s are still pretty snug in the waist but they are really baggy in the legs. I feel really awkward and I hope it will go away as I lose more - still, I am thinking it might be a good idea to do some cardio and some crunches to get the midsection to start losing a bit there.

It's definitely a struggle while in progress! I'm in between an 18 and a 20 right now...my 20's are falling off my butt but the 18's are still a little tight and unflattering. I finally found a pair of 20's in my drawer that fit ok in the waist, sadly they are giant flares which I don't love but they are staying on my butt and I refuse to buy any more clothes this size. I'm trying to fit into the 18's because I have a closet full of them...but hope to not stay in that size very long!

Maybe try some different brands and fits? You might look into a slim or skinny cut of jeans or pants (or capris/shorts!) if your thighs are that much smaller--show em off!

Get them big enough for the big parts, then have them altered.

I went from a 24 to an 18W with 35 lbs gone. I find that walking is the best way to even out the weight loss and redistribute the fat and muscle in equal places. Of course, it all depends on how you were shaped before. I've always been "true to size", even at a 24. Think of how clothes fit before and that might be an indicator of how they'll fit. I agree...better baggy than tight. This way you'll be sure to avoid that camel toe :) lol

It is so exciting to go down sizes but figuring out what will fit has been challenging. I ended up trying different brands and stores. Some brands will be a better fit and cut. In jeans I must have tried dozens of jeans before I found one that fit last time.

Congrats on the fabulous loss and happy shopping!

I'm in between sizes right now too. My waist could be an 8 but my hips are defiantly a 10. I tend to carry a lot of weight in my hips and thighs. From what I understand it's going to take a lot of work to get them to even up. Of course I've always had an hourglass figure so the challenge of finding pants that for my waist AND hips/thighs is not new, albeit it is extremely frustrating!
Just like what everyone else said: get your pants to fit the widest part of you. Then you can get them tailored or wear a belt. I'd say a belt since you're going to keep loosing weight, you don't want to have to waste any money. Ive had to resign myself to the fact that clothes are just going to fit a little weird until I get to my goal weight.
Good luck and keep up the great work!

Wear skirts or dresses. That solves that problem.

I find they're the easiest to keep wearing as I lose weight. The strange leg / baggy butt combo doesn't happen with skirts.

My waist has always been smaller than my bottom half, being a pear and all.

I started as a size 18. Now I wear a 14-12, but for Easter I decided to buy a dress. It was really cute and vintagy so it had a circular skirt. That one was a size 8! It's the one I'm wearing in my profile pic. It wasn't über tight or anything and it felt comfy in the legs.

I hope my bottom will catch up to my top at some point, but I know I will always rock the ghetto booty and I'm good with that. ;0)

I needed another pair of jeans a couple months ago but didn't want to spend a lot. I found a pair of Paris Blues (not the highest quality, but cute and cheap) for $12 at Ross. They tided me over when I got too small for the 22's while I was passing through the 20's (almost too big now). It stinks having to pay money for clothes that aren't going to fit very long. But I recommend Ross/T J Maxx if you have to get something and don't want to break the bank for something you might not wear very long!

Having clothes tailored has been my only choice. I started at a tight 22 and now I am in a loose 16 (PS it almost makes me cry to say that!). My legs are thinner than my waist so I either have pants that are slightly baggy on my legs and hips or too tight in the waist. I am keeping a few key items of clothes for work and "play" , i.e. black pants and nice jeans that I have tailed to fit just me. :) Tailoring doesn't have to be super expensive either; you just have to look around. It is also what the 'What not to Wear" hosts preach.

    Major congrats!

Think about the cut of your pants--are they straight leg or skinny? You might want to look for something with a flare or a wide leg, depending on the rest of your body. That will solve the hips/legs issue.

I started at a size 10, but now am a 6 in pants. I still have some work pants that are 10s, and I can't really buy a new work wardrobe, but the 10s will still stay on my booty. Definitely didn't lose that.

I think my bust went down a size, from around a 12 to a 10, and I can wear a 10 or 8 in dresses now. I lost a lot of waist weight, but kept the curvy parts.

Keep Old Navy in mind-- not the best quality but I've gotten some cheap work basics there, and they have weekly sales. This past weekend, shorts were on sale, and I picked up three for about $15 each.

I used to dread the dressing room, with its fluorescent lights and some severe body dysmorphia, but now I'm pleasantly surprised. Congrats on your own loss!

I wear a size bigger in my waist than I do in my thighs as of right now.
Since I'm losing weight I've been going to Walmart and Tjmax for jeans because I don't want to spend a bunch of money on clothes that are only going to fit me for a month at the most.
Another good thing to do is to donate all your fat clothes to Good Will or another charity.
