...about FAT?

I have been doing pretty well so far, since being on MFP. I've lost 15 lbs in 5 weeks and feel great. I have 40 more to go, and could stand a few more beyond that
One thing that bugs me though, is that my daily fat (and sometimes sodium) is always close to, or in the red zone. I have it set for 56 gms of fat daily. I try to eat mostly healthy fats though~ eggs, leaner meats, cheese etc. I am breastfeeding also so I don't want to go too below daily recs. for fat.
I burn about 500-700 calories daily from excercise and have a hard time eating back all of those calories (plus 300 added for breastfeeding), so I was hoping some of you here had some good suggestions or recipes for snacks with lower fat and sodium but not too low calorie...? I guess I could Google it, but everyone here is always so helpful

Fat is good for you! It sounds like you are eating the good fats, and staying under your daily calories, so I wouldn't worry.0

I tend to agree with others that eating good fats is not necessarily a bad thing.....but I understand that you also need to watch them too. Everything in moderation!
I make a lower fat version of hummus that my husband & I enjoy.
1 can garbonzo beans drained and rinsed (but reserve about a couple tablespoons of the liquid).
garlic (depending how much you like it) - I use a half a clove
2 tsp lemon juice
1/2 cup plain unsweetened greek yogurt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 roasted red peper (I buy it in the jar)
2 tsp cumin
Put it all in a food processor, add reserved liquid and blend until it's the consistency you like.
I have this in my recipies - and don't have the specifics, but it's about 62 calories for 1/4 cup of hummus. I love it with my fresh veggies. Raw peppers, sugar snap peas, cauliflower, etc.
So it's not really high in calories (because it's a lower fat version), but you could also put it on some low-fat crackers rather than veggies to up the cals without the fat.0 -
As a nursing mommy you want to eat whole grains, oatmeal, brown rice, barley, quinona etc. Leafy greens of course. Calcium. If you have adjusted your calories for nursing then you definately want to eat back your exercise calories. You can also add things like brewers yeast and flax, they add a little bit of cals + essential vitamins and omega 3's from the flax. Drop empty calories, make sure you get lots of water. Broccoli and oranges would be a good combo for vit c and calcium.0

Have you considered changeing your ratios to suit your lifestyle more?0

Thanks for the suggestions!
I was putting breastfeeding as a snack, but I'm adding it as an excersise this week instead
I like the hummus recipe! I love beans... I take lots of vitamins already, including extra b complex, c, calcium and magnesium as well as fish oil and a few greenies. I'm not sure how to change the ratios without messing everything up, lol. I'll take a look though and see if I canchange it just a little bit.0
