I stepped on the scale this morning and I am down 8.4 lbs I am stoked! I am 53 years old, and 5'7". My cals have been set on sedentary (thought I set it on lightly active but was mistaken) at 1650 cals a day. Some days last week were a little short but a couple of days (especially Saturday!) were over. Only 85 more lbs to go! Yay!

Hi Penney... don't expect to lose 8 lbs. every week... most of that was probably water weight... you can expect to lose on average 1 - 2 lbs a week depending on how aggressively you pursue your goals... and some weeks you won't lose anything... but stay the course and you'll get there.0

congrats on first week success! What matters more than any individual day in isolation is averaging at the appropriate calorie value over time, so being under a few and over a few will still result in weight loss if your overall intake stays low enough.
I had been set at sedentary for the longest time, and started with a .5 per week goal so I wasn't being too aggressive at first. Wanted to ease into it. I had great success at first too! As I got better at weighing food and finding lower calorie choices that kept me full and happy, I had some weeks with a more aggressive goal. I bump it around a lot to keep up with what I have going on that week.
Just don't beat yourself up on those weeks where you see no loss (or even a gain!) With 85 to go those weeks will happen, but you'll still get your 85 gone so long as you keep tweaking things and keep going. Find a way to do this and keep doing this where it's not too hard and you aren't miserable- that's the key to sustainability thus the key to success!
Best of luck and congrats!0 -

Thank you everyone! Of course I don't expect to lose 8 lbs every week, and don't want to anyway. I'm glad that water bloat is gone! I didn't want to get too aggressive at first and set my goals to lose 1 lb per week, so I'm definitely expecting it to slow down as time goes on. I like to eat, so I am not going to reset until I see 3 weeks straight with no loss.
When I set my goal at 2 lbs per week, the total cals (before exercise) were 1200 -- ugh no way! So ... first week was a great jump-start. I am telling myself patience is key, and that I'll have to watch what I eat for the rest of my life. Here's to success for everyone!0 -
take that scale and hide it, better yet, give it away. You don't need one to keep track of your weight loss.....your clothes will tell you that...0
