I bought a skipping rope, heard 15 min is supposed to burn alot, here is how it is calculated Total calories burned = calories burned per pound per minute × your weight (pound) × minutes of activity I have found out that I can't skip rope inside my house. And we've got alot of snow so it'll have to wait until I can go outside. Am I the only one that seemed to be better at skipping rope when I was young? lol you should've seen me. :)

I skip about 3 times a week as part of my training. I love it but it takes a while to get going to the point you can skip for about 20 - 30minutes. Its a matter of perseverance until you get faster and more accomplished. I would highly recommend it as a way of losing weight and getting in shape as its less stressful on your joints than running.
  • My older brother was a big teenager. I've always been big too, but I've only just decided to do something about it. So when he picked up the skipping rope and did it for 15 mins a day (at first) and then worked he way up to 30 mins a day, the weight just melted off him. He's a dang twig now. (*)
Unfortunately it hasn't has the same results for me.....but that might be due to my broken leg (not skipping related ;) ).
I will be trying it when I can, so I think it would be a good thing to do.

Nice one:) Regarding a plan, I would suggest just starting to skip. Try to skip for 2 minutes solid without stopping, then increase this to 3 minutes, 4minutes etc. It will take a while because it is difficult at first, but just stick at it. Your objective is to get to about 20 minutes solid skipping, even more if you can manage it. Once you become proficient, skip for 3 minutes, then add in 10 squats/burpees/star jumps/press-ups. In no time at all you will notice your body change.
Also, get music on your MP3 player with a fairly quick beat (125 or more bpm) and use this to help your timing. You can even do sessions where you skip for one song, do squats/burpees/star jumps/press-ups for the next song and so on.
If you can do this 3 to 4 times a week you will be flying ;)

    Is skipping different than jumping?

<g> Yeah I believe so, but I had a good time imagining the OP just skipping down the street singing tra-la-la.

Skipping rope is an astoundingly effective calorie burner, and good in many physical ways, as well.

Wasn't quite skipping down the road didn't want to scare the neighbours.
But I did try and remember some old playground skipping (jump rope) songs.
