I know there is an answer to that. I think I even read it. I just don't remember exactly what it was I just remember reading it and thinking "that makes sense".
To have some number to go by for logging in MFP, I wear a heart rate monitor (HRM) and log the calories burned during strength training using that number. I actually log it under cardio as "Strength Training" and input the calories from my HRM in the entry. I know this isn't truly accurate because HRMs are intended for sustained cardio exercise. However, I figure if I wear it consistently and log it consistently, it will be RELATIVELY accurate.
My experience (I've been strength training while wearing an HRM for 8 years) is that the calorie burn can vary radically depending on the type of strength training I do. When I "lift heavy" the calorie burn during exercise is actually quite low (200-300 cal per hour). When I'm doing compound movements with minimal down time, I can get a higher burn rate (as high as 600 when doing tabata style workouts).0 -
